Not utilizing Zherdev on the PP

I'm liking the fact that teh points are getting more shots on the PP. I think that any real good PP (historically speaking of course) is generated when you have good point men with good shots from the point, but that being said, I fail to understand why they are not using Zherdev along the half boards in the same manner they are forcing the puck (rather it seems forced to Gomer on the far side.

Not only that, but Zherdev has a wicked shot and getting him the puck in that spot to shoot the puck would seem to me to make a ton of sense.

I literally screamed at the television last night begging someone to pass him the puck, but instead over to the other point and then down to Gomer where nothing was generated.

Again, I'm not discounting the game that Buffalo played, they were the better team last night, but if what you have been trying isn't working, where's the adjustment? Doesn't have to be a season long adjustment, just an in-game adjustment. This is one of the problems I have had with Renney. A small problem no doubt, but one that if not corrected, can pose a real obstcale later.

Thoughts?

I think they are utilizing Zherdev correctly right now. One thing I would be careful with concerning him would be putting too much pressure on him. Once he gets some time and hopefully learns from the way that Drury and Gomez do things, he'll learn on how to really handle everything.

I think it's best to treat him as though he is a bit fragile for the time being. He's doing very well in the role he's been asked and he gets his chances on the power play. Just think they shouldn't run everything through him quite yet. Definitely our most talented offensive player though.

For a fan base that *****ed about Jagr playing perimiter on the side boards on the powerplay last year I seem to notice Zherdev is the same spot trying to create plays. I think whoever said he was more of a playmaker than a goal scorer was dead on. I would like to see them double shift Zherdev on the PP if it's possible. Kinda like he gets double shifted on that 4th line to create more offense.

Sorry guys I don't see that big of a difference in our PP compared to last season. Voros took over Avery's job in front of the goalie, Z took over for Jagr setting it up in the zone and no one seems to want to shoot except for the pointmen. It could still be better but as far as the whole set up of it it looks very similar.

The PP, besides the Flyers game with Dubinskys line only has looked downright awful. They dont generate any shots and are constantly fumbling or turningover passes.

Renney needs to do something to get that going. Drury and Gomez basically waste a minute out there.

We've been saying this since 2005-06. If the Rangers don't have a top 12-15 PP they aren't making the playoffs this year. It's as easy as that. They don't have the 600 goal scorers that they can lean on when the team is struggling offensively so they better do a much better job on the PP.

i agree....i think zherdev should have the puck on his stick more often....we have seen the kids skill in europe when he was given the puck with drury's goal in the slot and dubi's wide open net goal....i would really like to see some through-the-box passes between gomez and zherdev...

I'd personally like to see Zherdev playing with Gomez on the powerplay. IMO, you have to get your best center playing with your best wing on the PP.

no problem with those 2 playing together. both can carry the pill. neither of those 2 guys are shooters though.

problem is, we still dont shoot enough. once this team goes back to basics and gets shots on net with traffic in front, the pp will pickup. until then, we could have 5 zherdevs on the ice and still not score.

Zherdev has had at least one shot in each of the last 3 or 4 games on the PP that was in prime scoring position between the hash marks. All of them went wide except the one he got the goal on.

I think he's being used correctly, he just needs to stop missing the net
