Ott-Ana

To Senators
G Jonas Hiller

To Ducks
G Alex Auld
C Alexander Nikulin
2nd round pick

Thoughts?

Gives Ottawa a goalie who played great last year in Anaheim and has years of international experiance who can either press Gerber to play better or take the job outright.

Ducks get a veteran goalie along with a solid prospect and good pick to help rebuild there depleted farm system.

But auld already can press gerber or take the job outright. Cheaper than Hiller too

After seeing him in Vancouver... I love Auld but I don't think he's quite a #1. Fantastic backup who can step in for an extended period if injuries strike, but I'm not sure I'd want him playing the #1 role heading down the stretch and into the playoffs

A russian on the ducks? ha ha ha

if Burke had to choose between Evgeny Malkin and Mark Parrish I bet you he'd take Parrish.

I'm not even trying to be sarcastic.

I'm not entirely sure that there is a difference between Gerber and Hillier.

Personally, I'd like to keep Auld and dump Gerbs.

No from Ottawa...throwing away a 2nd round draft pick for nothing.

Your underrating Hiller, like Bryzgalov he could pretty much be a #1 on another team but is stuck behind Giguere

Only 0.3M more than Auld too

Yeah, I'd do it for sure if I were the Sens. Don't think Anaheim has much interest though. They gave away Bryz for nothing to make room for Hiller.

I wouldn't do this deal if I where Ottawa. They need a proven #1 goalie, not a wildcard like Hillier.

What are people's definition of a 'proven' starting goaltender? From the sounds of it, that is limited to about 8-10 goalies in the league with 9 of them being untouchable and then Lehtonen.

If Ottawa wants a true stud, they're going to have to either get one via free agency, draft one or take a chance on a guy like hiller and hope he develops into one. Scouting is key.

Won't ever happen...well...Auld being traded so soon since signing as a UFA in Ottawa.

What message would that send out to the players?

I don't think Ottawa wants to sent out a:

"If you sign as an unrestricted free agent in Ottawa, we'll stab you in the back and trade you in the first year of your contract"

Very bad PR if you ever want another UFA to sign with you ever again.

This is tempting. I would probably do this (value-wise)...

Hiller certainly didn't look impressive last night against the Oilers.

Did you actually watch the game, or are you just looking at the recap? Hiller did look impressive, but the rest of the team was ****.

Neither team does this. Ottawa shouldn't send out 3 assets for a backup goaltender, and those assets aren't enough incentive to convince Anaheim to downgrade their goaltending.

I have. As I said, he has one decent year as an NHL backup. It really isnt near as far a stretch as you make it out to be.
