I find it really hard to place any blame at all on Gordon. Especially given the prominence of the disconnect last season between Ted and Garth, the fact that Flash and Garth are on the same page---even if it's the wrong page to be on---is comforting to me. It seems kind of silly for them to be as coy as they're being, given the obviousness of our injury problems, but I suspect that the decision is Garth's, and Flash has simply been put in a tough spot. Further, if he can lead us to wins on the ice, I don't really care if he never speaks to reporters at all.
I fail to see how this is on Gordan. This is an organizational policy. Many teams are doing this, and not just the Islanders. I guess it's just one of those things we do as Islander fans; looking for any reason to complain about the team. If anybody is to blame, it's sports' worst comish, Gary Bettman. Injury reports should be detailed, as they are in the more successful NFL.
Criticizing the Islanders for the way they are handling the Dipietro situation, however, is a different story. In my opinion, Dipietro is being kept on the roster for all the wrong reasons. At the forefront are ticket sales. You will obviously sell more tickets if there is a chance that Dipietro plays. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what it seems like to me.
I love this organization. I feel in today's era true comedy is harder and harder to come by. Outside a few posters who make me laugh (not you KC ) there just isn't much humor. And then there are the Isles to save the day. Every morning I wake up, look at these boards and at hockey news and I get a great laugh. This organization has a new joke every day.
Which leads me to the handling of this Rick DiPietro situation. Don't you just love the smokescreen they give us? He's a healthy back-up. Sure. That's why when your real backup comes in and gives up 5 goals in 30 minutes, 4 of which are his fault, Ricky is just sitting there. New coach Gordon now loses all his credibility saying he doesn't like to pull goalies, when by the way, he pulled Rask 4 times in a 3 week period last year with Providence. Now, I'm not sure if it's Gordon or Snow at fault - my mind thinks it's Snow - but to put your new NHL coach in a no-win situation like that? Nice going.
This is why Ted Nolan is gone. Never would he keep an injured player on the bench at the expense of a teams chance to win. He would have Dubliewicz in net and Joey MacDonald on the bench until Rick DiPiowntheteam in the press box until he was healthy enough to play and win games.

This would hurt Snow's feelings so Nolan is out.
Disagree completely. If Nolan was here, Ricky would have played the first 3 games. Nolan overplayed Ricky knowing he was hurt until the Isles shut him down last year.

No DiPietro played himself every game he was healthy enough to play. Nobody has any control over DiPietro since he basically owns the team. However, when he was hurt Nolan played Dubliewicz and then when he was real hurt Nolan sent him to the press box and then finally he opted for surgery. There is no way Nolan would have sat his ass on the bench at the expense of a backup goalie. Lets admit it nothing in the world is getting him in the net.
I'm a huge Islander fan and this has nothing to do with MacDonald but I hope he breaks his leg in the first 10 minutes of next game. I want to see what this joke of a franchise does then.
Okay. Seriously, I woke up this morning still kind of ticked off at the Islanders, not because they lost 7-1 yesterday, not because Rick DiPietro couldn't stay healthy if he had Mother Theresa and God together by his side, and not even because of the regular guy Garth Snow called.
I'm pissed because the way the organization HANDLES itself is a complete joke. Here's a few things that this self-proclaimed fan friendly organization has made specifically not fan friendly, in the least bit.
I guess we'll start off first with the injury policy - or lack of injury policy. I personally could not care less whether the Islanders tell me the exact injury or not. In fact, they don't even have to tell me what part of the body the player hurt. But give me a freakin' timetable. Found out Chris Campoli skated today, but he couldn't talk about it. "So when you gonna be back, Chris?"..."I can't talk about it." That's nice. So now all of the fans are left in the dark about when Campoli is coming back. But it doesn't stop there. Has anyone heard a THING about Radek Martinek? Botta says he's in street clothes. That's a surprise. When's he coming back? How long is he out? Anyone?

But I digress, becuase well, I'm sure everything will be resolved at practice today, right? Wrong. Gordon is not present today! How convenient. Look, if he actually has legitimate personal problems, I understand that, and I hope everything is okay. But with all the ****-stained lies that are coming out of the front office recently, I happen to think Snow and Gordon are having a little chat. One that Snow is telling Gordon how HE wants the team to be run. And Gordon will go along with it. Snow says he has patience, but he realistically has the impatience of a 5-year old kid.
It's one thing if Wang is making crazy ass personnel moves. That's ridiculous in itself. The fact that this organization who is worried so much about fan perception and fan loyalty is keeping their fans (customers) in the dark about hockey decisions and happenings. Well that's the real joke.
Excellent. I agree 100%.
I used to get all pissed off over **** like this. I used to throw stuff. Anyone remember my screaming at King and Weiderman while on the air from the Blueline after another loss to the Rangers a couple of years back? Ahh. memories. I have since mellowed. Too many years in a row of absolute idiocy running this franchise.
I just dont care anymore. Let this team crumble. That is what happens when your management is a joke. Nobody wants to play for you and you are the the laughingstock of the league. You think the new Dumpiseum would be such a challenge to get done if the Rangers were playing there? I guarantee you, the delay and bullsit which has been going on is a direct result of the Islanders SUCKING for 10years. If the county were able to make money off this, they would jump at it. truth is that with the Isles being the main draw of this new facility---still nobody is going to come. I say.. let them tarnish in that building till they are moved.
Ive been thinking of moving to Raleigh anyway.
Now Im sure that some people are going to say "You arent a real fan. You should love them all the time...blah blah blah."
My response is this.
Eat it.
Will I watch every game? hell yea.. i love the isles.
Will I care if they lose? nope. Im expecting them to.
Will I lose a WINK of sleep if DP is out for the year? not a one.
until this teams shows MULTIPLE INTELLIGENT HOCKEY MOVES, Im not wasting energy on them.

Sorry Joey its not personal.
They knew DiPietro was hurt at the All-Star game and then continually played him for all of February into March. Then Nolan benched DP because he was hurt against the Rangers. Snow made a comment, so Nolan benched DP the next game (against the Rags) again out of spite. Finally, they shut him down.
Don't give me that crap. Nolan overplayed DP both years he was here, which was fine, because the first year we were in the hunt, and last year we were in the hunt until he got hurt.
Tired of Wang running this team playing GM and coach...tired of all that is here from Boston.... Milbury and his Boston connection still in play
When will the team get better.....When Wang sells it!
Snow a GM....Joke........... More Boston
Scott Gordon NHL Coach Joke....More Boston
Hilbert....more Boston
Nate Thompson...more Boston
DP....sorry but I don't think he will ever be healthy to prove anything.... more Boston
Milbury....Stamp on this team for another decade.....more Boston
Sorry to be so negative...
when Okposo and Comeau have Chemistry U play Comeau
Team continues to know zip about grooming youth...I am sure Okposo and Comeau will end up somewhere else soon....anything good knows it won't take long to be dealt...
Speak out against Wang or anything Boston and U shall be set Free

Doobie was not hot and winning.....
A Jack Adams winning coach was just being a brat. Funny how after Snow screamed on air to do as he's told, Nolan did as he was told.
Can we just accept Snow was involved, the same Snow that gave Joey MacShootertutor a one way and Doobie the crowd favorite a two way?
Nolan won the debate even if Doobie lost the game. Hot goalie plays and Rick was just coming back and apparently needed the rest given his hips and knee.
people automatically thought that a rumor under a guys blog was true
of course it is
DP bothers me because he is good enough to backup but not to start?
I believe why we about 2,000 short of a sellout was because DP is not starting and maybe fans (even some of the less loyal) knew he wasn't going to start, that if there is only a slight chance of him going in, why come???
I am more worried about DP's contract and that if they bring him in too soon it will be the end of the career of Goalie 2021 (sorry Nyisles, had to do it)and also worried about the overall frailness of the defense.
It will be a rough season, i am fully prepared for this.
I am tired of people saying that he is **** because he came from the AHL. Guess what, thats a developmental league for players and coaches. He coached the best team last year and was voted Coach of the Year. So if he's the best coach on the best team in the AHL, who would be more qualified to move up the the NHL? Thats like saying that a high school teacher cant become a college professor because he only taught high school.
[QUOTE=Satan'sIsland81;15844028]I mean is this team for real? Scott Gordon is a ****ing whiny *****. I love his system and his work on the ice, but off the ice, I have never seen a rookie coach do everything he can to piss off the team's beat reporters, bloggers and fans. Who does this guy think he is? He think he can just walk right in here and flat out lie or ignore every question regarding something he does not want to talk about.

I don't think it is his fault. Snow has backed him into a corner. This team will never win with Snow sticking his nose where it does not belong.

won't be long before Gordon quits or gets canned. I don't think he wants to be forced to lie to the media and the fans.
This is the sort of stuff Nolan got tired of...before he started spilling the beans in the media.
Gordon not at practice today. Personal reasons...or Philosophical differences??

At this point Im pretty much in your boat. I still get annoyed at things, but overall I've stopped giving a **** because they haven't showed they do.

Totally agree with your post Isles4Ever. They way they handle things is just joke. You know if they were a good team that made the playoffs every year and got past a few 1st rounds in the last few years maybe people would look past this. But this crap added to all the dopey crap that goes on with them really makes you want to stop rooting for them.
At this point Im pretty much in your boat. I still get annoyed at things, but overall I've stopped giving a **** because they haven't showed they do.
yeah i pretty much feel the same way too. i'll never stop rooting for them, but wang clearly doesnt care about winning, so its hard to care about this team. i also still get annoyed but i dont get angry like i used to because it just isnt worth it.
A Control of One's Emotion and Thought is a Wonderful Thing...
...especially for a fan of an unconventional franchise and a thoroughly out-skilled, rebuilding team.
At least one person has suggested that Gordon should be fired (if you want the name of that genius, PM me and I'll refer you to his post. I'll spare him the public embarassment of calling him out.)
Others are hyperventilating over a 7-1 loss. On October 13th! That's 180 minutes into an 82 game marathon.
Let's see. New coach, new system, numerous young, INEXPERIENCED players (you demanded them, NYI fans, now DEAL WITH THE PREDICTABLE GROWING PAINS), career fringe NHL netminder...Monday's outcome is a shock, such a disappointment? Newsflash: Expect to be disappointed more times between now and April.

Why the embarassing over-reaction? It's a fascinating study in human psychology, let's leave it at that, lest I insult anyone.
Sorry, this board is rapidly becoming a parody of itself. One comes here strictly for farcical laughter at this point.
Hopefully, mature, sane minds - those who regularly provide actual insight - will prevail, for there are many of them. They are just being over-run at the moment by the screaming memes.

I understand where you are coming from but I honestly haven't been bothered by one of these things. I've gone into the season expecting the absolute worst and have gotten it rather quickly. I'd almost prefer them to just shut DP down for at least the first quarter of the season just so they are taking no risks, and at the same time increase our chances of getting Tavares/Hedman.
I know, I'm a bad guy for talking like that 3 games in, but it's my honest opinion. The best thing that could happen for this team is to A) Take no chances with our 15-year goaltender, B) Get the kids some experience, and learn which ones aren't apart of the future, and C) put us in position to draft a true franchise player, and not TRADE DOWN before we have the chance to.
Bottom line, I think we all know that if the Isles aren't the biggest joke-franchise in hockey, we are pretty damn close. Therefor nothing really surprises/bothers me much anymore when it comes to this team.

finally..some sanity; no wonder darth milbury rarely posts in these parts (and im on the west coast)
the "parody of itself" is 100% spot on.
lets see if i understand what happened today:
gordon is not a practice
some anonymous poster spouts **** on botta's blog (which should come as no surprise if ANYONE has actually been reading into botta's new blog, the amount of houskeeping he has had to do to keep the chipmunks from coming out of the woodworks is insane)
and suddenly you have people running around a chickens with heads come off
here is the sad part, its not just posters, its some well ranking posters who are jumping on this panic bandwagon.
Some are even going so far as mixing the Dipietro issue with the official policy of EVERY nhl team going forward, of undisclosing injuries.
Angry that we dont have a backup who can come in a pinch right now?
valid
trying to tie dp issue with the nhl injury policy, which EVERY *** TEAM IS FOLLOWING TO A TEE NOW

Time out. My original post was not about the team struggling. Not at all. It was a rant about management - and only management - and how I find their policies to be ********. It has nothing to do with the on ice team.
