Braydon Coburn to Flyers for Alexei Zhitnik (Atlanta)

Can someone say Flyers robbery?

I also think how the Flyers got rid of Peter Forsberg and (eventually) got Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen was pretty lopsided until the Flyers overpaid Hartnell. IMHO only Timonen was worth the overpayment.

Jagr for Beech, Sivek and Lupaschuk was brutal.

I'm still under the impression that the Roy/Keane trade is #1, but I'm probably wrong.

The pick being Wesley made it worse, but I don't think this trade is as bad as it's often made out to be. Pederson was a stud until he got hurt (much like Neely...). Of course Vancouver grabbed him on his downswing which is why the trade turned out as bad as it was. Too bad about that shoulder...the guy was on pace for a heck of a career.

Loungo - Bertuzzi is my choice for the last couple decades. Though that Spezza/Chara - Yashin one is also atrocious. Maybe moreso.

Philadelphia Flyers traded Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault) in 1993, 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994 and cash to the Quebec Nordiques for Eric Lindros.

Did you start watching hockey in 2008?
lets go back to 2001: superstar like Yashin for 6-9 enforcer Chara + high draft pick + Bill Muckalt (who?)

Yashin helped the Islanders qualify for the playoffs

I don't buy a lot of trades that go as follows:

Superstar for 3 first round picks who turned out to be _____, _____, and ____.

The trade in itself is not a bad deal. The fact that the team receiving the pick chose players that did not pan out doesn't negate the fact that they received ample compensation.

If we're just going to go by the imaginary formula, assets received divided by assets lost, then the winner has to be Naslund for Stojanov. I really like this one because we didn't need hindsight to see this. We werent thinking "let's see how this one turns out", we were all thinking "wow, I know Naslund is one-dimensional, but this is a 23-year old who already has 55 points this year, for a goon."

other candidates (I think it's only fair to include "hockey deals" and not deadline/rebuilding trades because they are made with the intention of getting better immediately while mortgaging the future, or tanking for a better pick to get better in the future):

Courtnall to MTL
Neely to BOS
Yashin to NYI

Lindros single handedly carried the Flyers to the finals. He was flat out dominant on the ice before the concussions. I wouldn't say the trade was that heavily lopsided.

As a Flyers fan, that trade was lopsided FOR THE AVS.

It helped set them up for 2 cups.

In all honesty, if I knew what Peter Forsberg would become, its hard to argue trading Forsberg straight up for Lindros.

Lindros without the concussions and his parents is a whole different story though, but you can't change that now.

I am biased though, I blame Lindros for the departure of Rod Brind'Amour, one of my favorite hockey players.

Agreed, lol.

A lot of things look different in retrospect.

Basically every move the Islanders make turns out bad.

They traded away
Chara
2nd overall pick which turned into Jason Spezza
Olli Jokinen
Luongo

and got back Yashin, Mark Parrish and scrubs

How about that circa 1982 trade by Irving Grundman of the Habs with Washington.

To Washington:

Brain Engblom
Rod Langway
Doug Jarvis
Craig Laughlin

To Montreal:

Ryan Walter
Rick Green

The Washington GM screamed in delighted when he hung up the phone on that one.

Rob Ramage and Rick Wamsley for Steve Bozek and Brett Hull.

Yeah, Ramage was the number five defenseman on the Flames 1989 stanley cup team, but Hull scored 521 goals in 10 full seasons in St. Louis.

Kevin Stevens for Anders Hakansson, anyone?
