Niskanen should play, constantly, and on the first pair.

He is still not near good enough in his own end, but it's nice to see him putting up points consistently. As always, I'm curious how the assists fall out in primary and secondary, but points are points.

Now if he could remember how to play defense, I might be able get back to lovingly ragging him instead of wanting to hit him in the head with a tire iron.

I often inspire that reaction. Price of being vocal about unpopular opinions.

Hell, sometimes I want to hit me in the head with a tire iron.

Ask and you shall receive:

Niskanen had 2 primary assists and 6 secondary assists during this stretch of 11 games.

Last four games for Niskanen 7 assists +7 2 PIM 1 giveaway 5 takeaways. Granted they never count Giveaways/Takeaways right. His last two games he has 5 takeaways.

Wow those are some seriously fantastic stats. Especially +7 in4 games. Maybe playing him with Sydor was good after all, teach him to really, really carry a D-pair.

No joke. You missed Thursday's game right?

He was covering up for Sydor left and right. Niskanen has exploded defensively the last few games. I don't even recognize him anymore.

Robidas has kind of plateaued it seems (still playing well though), but Daley, Niskanen, and Grossman have really turned it up this season.

I’m sick of the Robidas-Daley pair. I’d like to see what Grossman could do with Daley and some more minutes. I love how Grossman, since that goal, seems to say “screw it” and just carry the puck up the ice more.

I never thought of it that way, but Nisky really is learning how to be responsible for his D-pair, instead of following behind his partner (Zubov).

Same here, but then again; don't you remember the 90s?

Being paired with Sydor is the same way Zubov learned to play so well.

Grossman... what a BEAST. You know, once Grossman and Niskanen get a couple seasons under their respective belts, I think they could make a great D-pairing. Both are very smart, one more-so at defense and the other more-so at offense, I think they'd balance out really well.

I have him in my keeper league. Can somebody explain me why he turned that good in the 2nd half?

It seems to be a trend with our entire team. No idea.

But, does he play better than he should or is it the real Nisky?

I'll tell you in 5 more years, when we really know who the real Nisky is.

He's getting more power play time and better quality PP time since he's now with the 1st unit. Beyond that, his play at even strength has become more confident and aggressive. His transitions out of his own zone are more decisive and his passes crisper. His PK work remains strong as it has all year.

Note, he's also playing with Richards as his "d-pairing" on the powerplay rather than Sydor, I imagine that helps.
