ok let me clarify it. Doughty will be more important to this team than Malkin will EVER be. with Kopitar, brown, o'sullivan, purcell, moulson, simmonds, handzus, stoll, moller, frolov, THIS TEAM HAS ENOUGH FORWARDS. on our back-end? Doughty and O'donnell are the only players *worth* mentioning. Kings have more need for Doughty than Malkin, every kings fan would say that. and did you happen to read the part that states "Malkin's value IS Doughty + right now"?

How do you know? Maybe if Doughty lives up to his potential, but Malkin has already show he can be a game changer night in and night out, whereas Doughty has played a handful of games.

Because our defense has already improved with him on the ice for 4 games, I'm not saying Doughty will be better than Malkin, chances are he won't. My main point is that we finally have a player that is a difference maker at the defensive zone, and he looks as if he will take Lubo's place very shortly on the powerplay. It's like the comparison of Kopitar and Frolov on our team, while Kopitar is obviously the more talented and themore exciting player to watch from the two, Frolov is more IMPORTANT to this team because of the certain type of skill he brings to the table. The pens have every right to want Doughty+ for Malkin, it is a very fair value, but likely DL will turn it down without thinking twice.

Sure, I puke if they were to trade straight across, but that wouldn't be the case.

well, there were rumors that Malkin was proposed for the 2nd overall pick, now my thoughts are that obviously it wasn't true to begin with. Watch some kings games and you'll realize how special Doughty ALREADY is and how special he will be in the future ( VERY near future)

There was absolutely no truth whatsoever or the slightest hint of reality in Malkin being proposed for the 2nd overall. This guy was just nominated for the Hart, and he was shopped around at draft time, right while Ray Shero was slapping a 5 year extension onto him? Not to mention, in any draft in the last decade that didn't contain Crosby, Ovechkin, or Lecalvier, Malkin goes 1st overall. Period. Your 'rumor' is complete fiction.

I wish they could be ignore listed. I have this perverse need to go see how insane people will get, even if I really don't want to.

Here are the facts: Malkin is one of the premier players in the game. He's young and only likely to get better. He is signed to a long term contract at a very reasonable price.
Those things put together means that it is almost impossible for anyone to offer us anything that - minding cap consequences - will give us a better return on our dollars. That is, unless someone offers us something so good the deal doesn't make ANY sense for them.

i did say it was false in my mind because of that reason you pointed out, the extension that Malkin got.

First of all, there was never any rumour involving Malkin straight-up for your 2nd overall. The only rumour that ever went around with L.A. was started by that clod Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet, and even he knew not to throw out something that ridiculous value-wise.

And hey Hollywood, most of us are in Canada and have watched the kid play extensively over the past couple years. You figure you're the first to ever see him skate?

We're familiar with Doughty. And he's not even in the same stratosphere as Malkin in terms of worth. G'head, put up a poll - see how left-field you are.

Sometimes you don't make a trade that necessarily makes your team "better" by the traditional definition as in player "X" is better than player "Y" so the team that lands player "X" got the "better" player and therefore the "better" deal and are now that much "better".

Yes, obviously that is what each and every GM in the league is trying to do, however, there are so many variables and intangibles that go into the decision making process of a trade. Often times decisions are made to move conflicting egos, to shake up the culture of a team, somebody was **** somebody's wife on the team... the list can go on and on.

Yes, Malkin can be moved. This whole attitude of Malkin can only be moved for Ovechkin is extremely short sighted and small minded. God, just look at the Pens blueline and start making a list...

Any trade involving malkin would have to be egregiously one-sided in the pens favor, which is why it is very unlikely to happen. The same could be said for the other under 25 year old superstars in this league.
