Who saw this coming?
If I had no life I'd write a bot script to spam the piss out of CP with Burrows vs Iginla's goals and points stats.

The fact that Burr has 2 more goals that Iginla is just LOLERSKATES worthy.

It's just amazing that Burrows currently sits at 10th in the NHL in goals (with 23). Unbelievable!

I see Burrows as our Jonathan Cheechoo. Both were rather unheralded players until finding ridiculous chemistry with star players on a scoring line. Cheechoo's goal production skyrocketed when he began skating with Thornton and it led to him winning the Rocket Richard trophy in '06. Similiarily, Burrows was a guy who really had no business being on a scoring line until he clicked with the Sedins and now he's scoring goals like mad. He obviously isn't in contention for the Rocket Richard trophy but his acsention to goal scorer status may be more gradual, wheras Cheechoo turned into a goal scoring machine within one season.

They also have the same kind of style of play. Neither of them dangle or have really impressive stick skills. Rather, they're shooters who go to the tough areas and find space to receive passes from their respective centermen. Burrows may be labled as a gritty, garbage goal guy and that's fair to a point but the guy also has a pretty decent shot. He's scored some beauties on one-timers or wristers where he picks the top corner like a natural goal scorer. He's obviously showcased some pretty moves as well with the odd breakaway or shorthanded goal he scores from time to time.

Does anyone else see the similarity that I am talking about? For the record, I'm NOT saying Burrows is going to score 56 goals and win the Rocket Richard trophy. I'm simply pointing out the situational similarities between both players.

Burrows won't score 56 but he also won't become a borderline NHL'er like Cheechoo has. Even if his scoring dries up, Burr still brings a lot to the table for $2 million.

Burrows is one of the best penalty killers in the league

Among forwards with 30 or more games played and 1.5min of pk per game, Burrows is:

* 9th in goals against per 60 minutes played

* 6th in goals for per 60

* 2nd in plus minus per 60 behind Jonathan Toews

* 2nd pk rating overall on behindthenet.ca (where all this data)

* tied for 1st in pk goals for with 3, leads league in points with 4

The stats aren't quite as good last year but still rated very highly.

* According to the ECHL website, 430 of their former players have made it to the NHL.

* I think to be a true ECHL journeyman you have to have been undrafted and played for more than 1 ECHL team. I further limited it to players with 100 games or more (lots with 3, 5, 17, etc..) and excluded goaltenders (I'm guessing a third of the 430 are goalies)

1 Glen Metropolit 384 games 151 pts

2 Vern Fiddler 350 games 110 pts

3 Alex burrows 338 NHL games 144 pts

4 Raiitis Ivanans 265 games 18 pts

5 Bill Huard 223 games 34 pts

6 Rich Peverley 162 games 95 points

There's possibly another 5-10 that could be added to the list, like Harry York, that went undrafted but only played for 1 ECHL team (before moving on to greener pastures...).

So Alex Burrows is one of the best if not the best undrafted journeyman to come out of the ECHL.

Hats off, Alex Burrows, you made it to the show against all odds. You are a true Cinderella story.

Hopefully by the end of this year The Burrosity can solidify himself as the clear cut 2nd place in journeymen ECHLers (behind the Pevs of course)

The most points Burrows has ever gotten (since Bantam) is 73 (Columbia Inferno ECHL), the most goals he's ever scored in a season was 35 in junior and 29 in that same year with the Columbia Inferno.

Last year he almost surpassed the professional league goal total, maybe this year. but...

Is it safe to say he's the only professional ball hockey player in the NHL?

That's crazy stuff!

So Burrows took a break from scoring and played setup guy tonight with 3 assists. I'm fine with that .

23-21-44 on the year now for Burrows .

add the fact that Morrow is about as durable as Demitra and you would have to wonder if Burrows wouldn't even be a better fit for team Canada than Morrow.

Remember his first couple years. He could barely skate properly and stay on his feet.

At the 2/3 mark of the season, would anyone say Burrows is on the radar for the Selke trophy?
