If Burrows never scores another goal, he's still my fav Canuck of all time!

Kronie, why the hate on Coach Torts? Think you're being funny here? You were probably beat up in the bus stop most of the time.

He was a fan of Ritchie Cunningham rather than Fonzie.

The angst of Alex - 22 games without a goal.
“Even when I got hot sometimes in previous years, I’d often say I got lucky on that one – I got a bounce,” Burrows said before travelling here for Tuesday’s road-trip finale against the Nashville Predators. “It’s a game of bounces and they go both ways. I like to believe the law of averages even out at the end of the year. Maybe – how would you say it? – this is luck in disguise. Because at the end of the year, when we need goals the most, they’re going to come in piles.”

And it was the last game he’ll play for some time.

The on-air report, originating from Bob “The Moj” Marjanovich, suggests Burrows suffered a broken jaw which required surgery and he’s now out of the lineup indefinitely.
I do not think that Marjanovich has ever broken a Canucks story and I am not sure that he has the sources.

Hopefully he just was taken in by a Twitter hoax.

I suppose we will get the official word tomorrow morning.

A positive piece via Botchford's latest blog entry on Burrows and what his teammates and Torts think of him in light of suffering the broken jaw in the Hurricanes game:

Source: http://blogs.theprovince.com/2013/12...s-ya-that-one/

Excerpts:

Kesler on Burrows:

Quote:
1. Ryan Kesler had it right, and Mike Komisarek did not.

Kesler was calling Burrows a “warrior” Tuesday and with good reason.

Burrows beelined off the ice, his mouth pooling with blood, after taking a Chris Tanev clearing attempt to his jaw against Carolina Sunday.

“He had some fractured teeth but the doctor did a pressure test and it passed,” assistant GM Laurence Gilman said. “He wanted to go back into the game. At that time, we felt it would be OK.”

Burrows missed two shifts, and played three more in the second before playing a whopping 7:42 in the third. He was among the Canucks’ best forwards in that period.

He literally saved the game when he cradled an Eric Staal tip out of the crease before it crossed the goal line.
BTW, why Komisarek on Burrows was wrong:

Quote:
It’s all rather embarrassing for Komisarek, who was yelling “faker” at Burrows when he came back on the ice Sunday.
Torts on Burrows:

Quote:
2. Burrows is seen as the team’s heart and soul.

Sure, Burrows had no goals in 17 games, and when he gets back half his season will be over.

But he is far more valuable to the Canucks than that stat line suggests.

“It’s been a tough year for him, and he’s a little bit of the soul of our team,” John Tortorella said. “He works hard, he’s such a great teammate. Everyone loves having him around.

“It hurts. It’s a big blow for us. We have to move by it.”
Bieksa on Burrows:

Quote:
Bieksa took it further.

“He’s a heart and soul player on this team and has been for a long time,” Bieksa said. “Maybe sometimes he doesn’t get the attention that he deserves.

“He’s had a tough year with injuries. We’ve all had a year like that, and this is his. He’s going to have to struggle through.

“He’s a strong personality. I know he can handle it.”

This is why I say that Burrow's is the league's most underrated player.

In reality all his success is owed to his hard work, guts, and willingness to be a team player. The last game is the perfect embodiment of what Alex Burrows truly is.

That's what the hockey world should see, but instead the narrative is Ron MacLean's character assassination and a couple of incidents overplayed in replays.

It has been tough to see Burrows's run of bad luck this year. The coaching staff and astute fans can see what he has been bringing to the team, though. Although he hasn't shown up a lot on the scoresheet, he has earned a lot of assists that don't show up on paper - screening the goalie, throwing a hit on the forecheck that ends up in a turnover and a goal, and like last game, saving a goal against.

Hope to see him back in the lineup sooner rather than later because this team is going to miss him.

Burrows is a ****ing warrior. He'll be back and better than ever, broken jaw isn't like a broken foot, you can still work out and skate around.

He should get the doctors to bust his jaw a bit more so that all is left is his mandible dangling off his face like a goalie's neck protector attached only by a few stringy, dangley tendons. Then he could skate around and play his regular game like it wasn't even a thing. That would be totally badass.

That little ***** Ron MacLean would still probably accuse him of faking it or something, though.

When he gets back -- 4 weeks from now -- even if he doesn't score a single goal all year, he'll still be an invaluable part of this team. That's the thing with Burrows. The guy is SO good at so many aspects of the game, scoring only being one of them. He's a very dynamic player that way too many fans of this team underrate from time to time.

Those times usually being when he's not scoring.
