Greene signs 5 year extension with Kings

"Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced"- that is really getting annoying.

Carolina's the only team I know of that discloses dollar amount.

At any rate, I'm sure Bobby Mac will have something on TSN soon.

Crazy... they must really like him!

I suspect it's something between $1.75M/yr to $2.25M/yr.

I know, but they didn't extend players as much as they are doing now.

excellent for Greene. I hope it's money well spent and earned.

A 5-year extension for Matt Greene? What the heck ....

The guy is just an awful hockey player, should be a 7th defender on any half-decent team. Has been an outright liability for the Oilers the past two seasons.

I don't care if he's managed to be decent for LA in a couple games so far, he'll turn back into the same garbage player he was before. Dumber than a sack of hammers.

I think that's a little low, I'm guessing it's between 3.0-3.5 million per year.

The deal will take him into his prime (at 30), so I'm guessing it'll be expensive near the end

This could be a heck of a deal if Greene becomes a great 2nd pairing defenseman....or it could trump the Cloutier deal as the worst in Kings history if he is never anything more than a decent 3rd pairing defenseman.

His rookie year was rough and was known to take dumb obstruction penalties, but he stopped those penalties a long time ago was actually decent post-foot injury:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/player...3127&year=2008

At the WHC, he played pretty well for Team USA. Decent PKer. Is huge. Has upside remaining. Zero offense tho'.

$3M/yr is a bit high for a #5-#6, but at least the contract bought 4 years of UFA years.

i think 3 million is a little high for a dman that has offensive limitations. 2.5 would have been the most for me, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Awful deal for a bottom-pairing defenseman.

Finger.

Am I thinking about the same Matt Greene? The former Oiler? Why is he getting 3 mill per year?

really? strange considering the soon to be 29-year old defenseman with one full NHL season has insofar yielded a negative return.

This is an AWFUL contract.

Greene was terrible each time I saw the Canucks face the Oilers.

Only he's not one in L.A. He was Johnson's partner until Johnson got hurt. ie. top 2 minutes. He's also an assistant captain. He's looked far better than Oiler fans were telling us he would.

I'm stunned at that amount . . .

. . . except this is Lombardi we're talking about. Green wins this one.

Sweet, you should totally give him $15 million based on his play in 3 games.

Two surprising moves by the Kings. First they name him alternate captain, then they sign him for 5 years.
