10-18-08 Avalanche at Stars Noon MT (ALT)

Stars and Avs have been similar so far this year...hopefully the Avs D continues to play as they did against Philli, because Dallas is still an explosive offensive team. Hopefully we can get to Turco as wel usually do as well.

Raycroft in net

If we would of went with Budaj I would of gone nuts. Lets ride Raycroft and hope he has forgotten his TML days.
Should be a lot of flow to the game and fun to watch. Cmon Av's lets put another in he win column.

No, lets not make him forget his TML days. We want him to remember his 37 win days.
What we want him to forget is his 2007 - 08 days.

Then when Raycroft loses a game, lets kick him to the curb. That way we have two goaltenders that are distracted by the thought of making any mistakes or having their team play poorly in front of them. It worked the last three times we were in this situation.

Thor sticking up for McLeod, second fight of the night for the two teams. McCormick vs Grossman.

I don't get why Wolski isn't replacing Sakic on the point, Wolski plays the point much better than Sakic.

Wolski and Jones on the PK there, and there's a goal against. Not sure what Granato is doing with the PK combos.

Wolski's going to have a great year, fantastic hustle by Wojo and then a nice pass to Tucker.

Good for Tucker to get that first goal, and off a pretty nice shot. If he had gone a few more games without one, I was worried it might start to affect his confidence, and he'd end up just settling into being a $2.25 M purely defensive player.

I really like how Leo's shooting the puck more this year. It looks as though the coaching staff has told him to do this, and he worked on it in training camp and practice, because he's shooting bullets out there. He never really had that hard a shot before, but I wonder if that wrist injury he had really affected it. He was always more of a setup man, even in Calgary, but I'm glad he's deciding to fire the puck more. Now if we can get Salei to start firing it like he did last year we'll be even more dangerous, but I would imagine since their both partners, one guy's gonna end up setting up the other more often.

That goal was a direct result of Salei going after Richards on the side boards. Hannan compensated for it and got caught trying to cover 2 guys.

Yea, I didn't think it was Wolski's or Jones' fault, since the man ended up far below what Wolski's coverage should have been, but Granato's pk combos have been kinda odd this year so far. He's probably looking to find something else that works, since what we had before wasn't really doing it, but he's had Wolski, Jones, McCormick, and McLeod out there a fair bit. They're not necessarily bad defensively, but none of them have really seen pk time at the NHL level in their careers. Seems as though he's made a decision to not play Stastny, Hejduk, and Sakic in that role to save them for 5 on 5 and PP time.

Wow, Hejduk just compared Stastny to Peter Forsberg.

He was talking about how he plays when on the same line with Paul. He said he just tries to get open and find the holes, like his role with Forsberg, meaning that both Paul and Peter are the designated set up man, while he's the shooter. That said, they're passing ability isn't too far off.

Raycroft looked very strong in that first period, including those saves where Morrow crashed the net and just kept banging away, but he totally lost his angle on that goal by Neal. He looked like he slid out to defend a shot from the middle of the ice, rather than the left.
