If Dallas keep him on that line and powerplay then i do think 50 -60 points aint out of the question.

From a caps fan Good luck with Brunström.

No one from Dallas will ever win any NHL award not named after Frank Selke.

Anyone else notice how easily he has taken the blue line on the PP? Mo and Robi have struggled and most forwards have just dumped it in, and I know he has had a little more time and space at times, but he takes the line and gets them set up quite well imo.

Just one concern about all this awesomeness, if he hits all his A and B achievements and we pay him in full, who do we kick off?

It doesn't matter. His bonuses currently count 100% against the cap right now. The players had an option to extend the CBA, but they did not. That means no teams are allowed a bonus cushion like in the past.

Yes, so by all means, go get those achievements, Brunny!

Actually (and I could be way off base here, so ignore me if I am) don't his bonuses come off the book after a certain point? Either a certain point in the season if he hasn't achieved them, or after it is impossible to achieve them (i.e., if one is based of games played and there aren't enough games left in the season to reach it). I think I read something related to this somewhere, but I have nothing to back myself up on it other than a shoddy memory.

map94 said that most of the bonuses would not be unattainable until the season ends. Plus, unless he has a major slump and gets benched quite a few games, I don't think 2 healthy scratches could keep him from reaching the games played bonus.

Also, Heika said somewhere that the Stars were expecting to pay him around $1.5 million when the season was over. I don't know what bonuses they were planning for him to reach.

Many of the most expensive bonuses deal with year-end awards (Calder, Conn Smythe), team's finish in the playoffs and Top 10 in a variety of statistical categories. Even if he's 75th in scoring on the final day of the season, those still can't be considered "dead" until the season is finally wrapped up.

The other set of bonuses are average ice time, point barriers, goal barriers, +/- and the like. Just as with the categories above, those can't be determined until after his final regular-season game.

I am hoping for 50 goals and 25 assists. It's been a long time since we had a 50 goal scorer on this team. I believe Mike Modano was the last star player to score 50 goals in a season, back in the 1990's. It may seem unrealistic, but with playmakers like Richards, Ribeiro, Morrow, and Modano, I believe it is possible, if he stays healthy. I am hoping he is the goal scorer we need to reach the Stanley Cup final.

No way that's even remotely close of being possible. Only 3 players reached or passed the 50-goal plateau last season (Ovechkin, Kovalchuk and Iginla). Fabian Brunnstrom, as good as he has been so far, will not mix himself between those names. Certainly not as a rookie.

I'd say we should be happy if he scores 20.

brunnstrom will NOT score 50 goals. We all should be happy if he hits 30.

I'm going with Ajacied.

20 goals = Happy

30 goals = Ecstatic

50 goals = Way to early to even believe that's possible (for this year).

I'll be very very happy if you're right, however.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet his contract has $850k (max he could get) in Exhibit 5 A bonuses and $500k in B bonuses. That adds up to the $1.35M in bonuses that seem to be in his contract.

Here are the nine categories of the A bonuses.
(i) Ice time
(ii) Goals: 20 Goal Minimum
(iii) Assists: 35 Assist Minimum
(iv) Points: 60 Point Minimum
(v) Points Per Game: .73 Points per Game Minimum (minimum 42 Regular Season games played)
(vi) Plus-Minus Rating: Among top three (3) forwards on the Club (Minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by player and comparison group).
(vii) End-of-Season NHL All-Rookie Team
(viii) NHL All-Star Game (selected to play or plays)
(ix) NHL All-Star Game MVP

8 and 9 could obviously be unattainable after the all-star game. 5 and 6 could be unattainable if he misses 41 games.

Here are the B Bonus categories:
-Top 5 Award Finish: Hart, Rocket Richard, Norris, Trophy and Selke Trophy
-Award Winner: Jennings and Conn Smythe Trophy
-End of Year All-Star: 1st Team or 2nd Team
-Forwards: Top 10 Goals, Assists, Points, PPG (min 42 GP)

Only the Top 10 PPG could be unattainable if he missed 41 games.

I have no idea what is in his contract, but the odds are very high that his cap figure won't budget all season.

Interesting read that was posted on the Business board about ELCs.

If Brunnstrom hits 50 goals, I'd say he's got a decent shot at the Calder, don't you?

Thanks for the link, that is awesome.

I have a few questions though. Through the recruiting process, I remember it was said that every team was offering him the maximum.

So his:

Salary = $787,500 (According to Andrew's)
Signing Bonus = $87,500 (According to Andrew's)
Total Bonus Possible = $1,350,000 (According to Andrew's)

According to that link:

The max "A" Bonus = $850,000
The max "B" Bonus = $2,000,000

If Brunnstrom was given a max "A" bonus of $850,000, his "B" bonus would be $500,000. Is he eligible for less because he was an undrafted rookie?

He definitely didn't get a true max contract if you consider bonuses.

And forget the Calder, I'm rooting for the Conn Smythe.

Canucks fan here but as I was sitting in a tulsa hotel room the other night and managed to watch the Stars-Devils game I must say I wasn't that impressed with him. NOw it was one game and clearly a game that the entire team forgot to show up for so it's certainly not the best representation.

But then I looked at his game log the last 5 (including last night on the island). 2 points, -6 and what appears to be decreasing icetime (18 min to 15 min to 13 min to 9 min).

Any thoughts? clarifications?

Referring to me?

I assure you I wasn't trolling. I was simply wondering on how his play has been the last 3-4 games. As I said I watched one game with an eye on him and wasn't impressed though no one was impressive so it liekly wasn't fair. Then I check the stats sheets and see his icetime decreasing (indicating the coaching staff isn't that impressed of late) and beyond the first game his stats have not been great.

Looking for an honest, informed assessment is all.

Well obviously no one was expecting to continue at the pace of his first game, he's still learning the NHL game; how long that'll take, who knows. But he'll hopefully stick around for the remainder of the season, and get better as time goes on.

Coach Tippett will continue to fiddle with the lines until he finds someone Brunnstrom meshes with the best, and then we'll see how he looks on a fully healthy and clicking Stars team.

No, it's not trolling, but you aren't exactly the most courteous poster around.
