Maloney's first draft steal?

I think it's a definite possibility.

Ross Traded to Vancouver Giants

Real good chance Nick Ross now gets to play in the Memorial Cup this year. That will be excellent experience if it happens.

Good for him. I hope they make it to the Memorial Cup. That way I can actually see him play a couple of hockey games(assuming the MemCup will be shown on NHLNetwork, again).

Tyler Johnson

Was wondering if you guys were following Tyler Johnson of the Spokane Chiefs at all. He's not drafted by the Coyotes but was at their camp before the season started. If you are following him, let me know and I can post something about him and updates the rest of the season.

I see Colin Long is back in the lineup after missing a couple of games with a minor concussion. Ideally this will be the last we hear about concussions in Long's career.

Jan 18/09 Summers hurt (from http://michiganhockey.net/ )

junior captain Chris Summers was slammed into the boards 23 seconds into the game and did not return after the first period. According to The Ann Arbor News, Berenson said Summers suffered a head injury and didnít know the extent of the injury.

Nauseating. I hope like hell it's just something minor.

That's great to hear. I actually didn't like the pick much, just based on second hand reports. It appears either I was misinformed, or that Stone has turned some corner. In any event this is encouraging news.

Stone does play on one of if not the best teams in Junior hockey so his stats are clearly inflated.

Having said that, next year will be very telling as there will be 2 or 3 vets gone from Calgary's d corps. He's got the physical tools to work with and he's getting the job done right now. He will probably be top 100 in the organization's HF rankings for next year.

Very impressive. Good for him. I hope he can develop into a top 4 guy in the NHL some day.

It doesn't matter how tough you are with head injuries. One bad concussion and you're never the same.

Michalek-Yandle
Ross-Summers
Goncharov-Ahnelov
Stone

Still no real stud but if they all continue to progress, that doesn't sound like a bad start to a future on the back end.

Sauer is here for another three years, too, and if Morris re-signs, it'll be at least for three more.

We should be making every attempt to re-sign Morris. Then our top 5 is fairly well set IMO for 2 more years:

Jovo
Michalek
Morris
Sauer
Yandle

and???

Choose from Summers, Ahnelov, or Goncharov

I'm sure there is a little more to it than that. He was just drafted seven months ago and he's already the third highest scoring defenseman in his league. I know stats aren't the end all be all, but 43 points in 47 games, in the Western League, as a defenseman, is pretty impressive, regardless of which team you play for. I'm sure you're right, though, it's certainly very likely that his team's success plays a large part in his own success. Regardless, his progress appears impressive and is reason enough to be excited. He has now joined Goncharov as another darkhorse candidate to one day become an impact NHL defenseman. Who knows if either will ever amount to anything, but one thing is for sure, the more kids we get threatening to do so, the better.

Stone is a top 2 (pairing)defenseman on a very good team. I am happy with that. He may also be part of the reason the team is so good, no?

Calgary's got an awfully strong top 4, where Stone ranks in that quartet is a matter of conjecture.

Next year will be an important year for Stone, along with this year playoffs (Mem Cup?).

I asked this a couple months ago and think its time to ask again. How's Jordan Staal doing where ever he's playing?

Jordan Staal plays in Pittsburg. If you meant Jared, here are his stats: http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=96605

I have not seen him play, so I cannot offer more.

FYI, Summers played both of Michigan's games this weekend, so he's apparently okay.

He had a goal and an assist, too. He's up to 13 points in 26 games.
