I'd rather have Kovalev on the team next year. He's more of a presence and has a bigger impact on the game. That's just me though and the problem will be that it isn't just about next year, it's a 2 to 3 year thing that they have to evaluate.

And that's exactly why we should sign Tanguay before Kovy, He's 28 years old while the other is 35. Gainey talked so much about brigning a real impact player from Québec on the team, i really don't think that he would waste a 1st round pick on a rental he got at the draft. Next year I would rather give the RW spot to A.Kost, play the brothers together and give a spot to Pacioretty, I Think that at there age and status, we'l be able to sign Koivu and Tanguay at reasonable prices, maybe giving us a chance to sign Lang for another year with a slight paycut

It will all depend on salaries guys, there is probably already a plan about this and how it will play out will depend on a) the salary cap next year and b) player salary negotiations. I think Kovalev with have a worse year than last but is still a lock for maybe around 65 - 70 points. Tanguay could get more, maybe around 80 - 85 rangeif he keeps up the chemistry with koivu. Not to mention Higgins, Komisarek and Plekanecs, and now I am just repeating the same thing that has been said over and over again in every post about next year.... wait a minute... ;-)

Consistency is also an issue. As are age, and overall play...

Tanguay will be at his prime, Kovalev, not so much.

Anyway... I firmly think both will be retained anyway... Kovalev has to be like last year though...

Really? Didn't know Hossa was from Quebec(and we all know that was the impact player he was talking about last year). Who cares where they are from.

If we win the cup, I say Tanguay takes 5 million, Koivu and Kovalev take a pay cut to stay with the team and keep us in shape to be contenders =)

Keep them both - they may take a price cut to stay.
Where is the 'keep both' option?

Gainey didn't say that he ONLY wanted impact players from here, and who cares if you don't care, it's what he wants, and yes it is a good thing to have some homeground talent on the team

I refuse to answer, on the grounds that we must keep both.
