I think the Sens and Sharks have more team speed than the Oilers or Lightning, but EDM and TB seem faster because of the uptempo, aggressive, pressure-the-puck style of hockey they play.
With guys like Oates, Cross, Ferguson, & Laraque in the lineup, the Oilers are no longer hands-down the fastest team in the league. Plus, hasn't the ice been getting a little run down this season? Oilers hockey just ain't what it used to be, but on the whole the team is built for speed.

Iginla, Conroy, Saprykin, Gelinas, McAmmond, Lombardi, Donovan, Leopold, Lydman and Ference are all above average to elite skaters in the NHL. There aren't many players faster than Shean Donovan.
1. Tampa- no question.
2. San Jose
2. Nashville.
4. Ottawa.
5. Calgary
6. Buffalo
7. Florida
8. Edmonton
9. Vancouver
10. New Jersey
11. St. Louis
12. Minnesota
13. Colorado
14. Toronto- probably not, but I wasn't gonna go all the way down............
Montreal has above skaters on their team, but they are not fast at all as a team, at least not top 5 for sure. Edmonton as a team is a lot slower than what they used to be. Cross and Laraque for example cannot skate at all, along with Oates and Ferguson, who Bohologo mentioned. Tampa and Calgary, however, I can agree with 100%.

stajan's list isn't bad but i'd have jersey higher, say edging out edmonton.
without marchant they have lost some speed for sure. too bad for columbus richardson evens todd out!
calgary's faster by far this year than the last few with donovan, clark, saprykin, gelinas et al but i think they're simply using it more under sutter than under other coaches. witness the team speed on san jose and how seldom they use it these days, compared to two years ago under sutter. nolan and selanne are both slower players, and that team FLEW even with them.
i'm a huge calgary fan but i'd knock the flames out of the top ten due to oliwa, kobasew, gauthier, and commodore.

Calgary is super fast.
This from Calgary Sun
The word is out. The Calgary Flames are a speedy crew.
It became official yesterday during the team's SuperSkills Competition, in which all six competitors blazed to respective times under 13.9 seconds in a record-setting performance among NHL clubs this season.

if calgary has the fastest top-six then they have the fastest top-six.
but whole-team-wise?
The oilers are always thought to be fast, but look at guys like Cross, BG, Ulanov, Oates etc. They are deadly slow. They have a few very fast guys, but overall their team speed is average. The Flames have outskated them this year in every game.
The Flames have just a few slow players. The rest is fast or very fast.

Of 20 teams that held skills competitions this season, the Flames were the fastest.
Wow. Many of you are posting your team is fast because of marginal players like Chimera, Gelinas, Ference etc. Who cares? These guys don't make an impact. On Ottawa, the only fast guy that isn't a major part of the team is Vermette. Then it is our stars, who see most of the ice-time such as Hossa, Bondra, Havlat, Alfie etc.
