Proposal: BUF-PHI

So I posted this on the main board, and after some info I got from you guys on the 50 contract scenario that the Flyers are dealing with, we have:

To BUF: Carter, Kukkonen

To PHI: Drew Stafford, Henrik Tallinder, 3rd

Sabres are desperate for another Scoring Center (Connolly is basically useless) and the Flyers could use an excellent defensive d-man like Tallinder. Stafford is an 8.0 B prosepect that should develop quite nicely on Richard's or Briere's wing.. Think Ryan Smyth potential here..

Philly can afford to trade J.C. with Richards and Briere manning the top two lines and yes, while I understand how good J. Carter is, adding a guy like Tallinder to your backend would really make Philly a force in the Atlantic IMO. You guys save over 2 million in cap space too.

I can see how many of you would have no interest in this, but you can't deny that the value is at least close here. And NO we don't want Briere back

Timmonen-Coburn
Tallinder-Vaananen

Very nice Top 4

Gange-Richards-Lupul
Hartnell-Briere-Stafford

Even better Top 6

Jeff Carter = 4 1st round picks. Flyers have no reason to accept any less.

If I'm trading Carter (+), I'd rather throw a little more and get the likes of Jay-Bo.

When his contract is up, he is still an RFA and such an offer sheet would likely result in such compensation. The Flyers won't trade Carter unless it's for a Jay-Bo type player, or someone is really stupid.

That's all fine and good, but his contract isn't up for two more seasons after this one. That means his compensation is four 1st-round picks starting 4 years from now, which in organizational valuation isn't all that high. You're talking about players most likely at minimum who won't be dressing up in the NHL for another 6 years, and 10 years before all of them might be in the NHL.

Seeing as this is a business, those are future investments that aren't going to payback anytime soon.

Carter's value is in real world assets, not those picks...so, it shouldn't be talked about as such. He has real value, but his RFA evaluation is moot.

I agree with that..
Screw this Sabres BS trade.

The only reason why he is here proposing it because we can not win a game BECAUSE of idiot head coach.

Or you take the picks and deal some of them for parts which, if properly managed would bring in better pieces. Jeff Carter would currently have less value than what his market value would be as opposed to his maximum value and the Flyers, if they wanted to let him go, they would wait for that moment, they have no reason to do otherwise.

Jeff carter really has all the tools to be a fantastic player. If only he could make his shot more accurate we would be seeing massive numbers from the kid. I see no reason to trade him unless we are getting a proven top 3# defenseman who can move the puck

I'd take Tallinder and Stafford over 4 Buffalo 1sts anyways, but there's no way this deal is fair.

Carter may not be worth 4 1st rounders, but hes worth more then Tallinder and Stafford.

Understandable, I see where you're coming from. Im actually quite surprised that trade hasn't already happened, seeing as Jokinen is gone and JayBo has basically stated he wants out.

Remember though that Stafford is still considered to have first line potential, and although he is no Jay Bo, hes still a decent trade chip. Tallinder is dynamite defensively btw. Was it ever an official rumor, Jay Bo for Carter? I know it was proposed on these boards 849498589 times but was ever reported in the media?

lol, well not much considering the history there. If his contract was a little more reasonable then I would offer much more, but remember that the Sabres have a self imposed cap and already have Vanek, and now Miller and Pomiville who eat up a lot of money. There is no way Golisano (our owner) would make a play for him based on history and salary, although everyone would welcome him back. Im curious as to what you would ask for off the Buffalo roster for Briere?

Just checked NHLnumbers.com, Briere's salary is just too much. There is a reason why we let him go already. If he was making 5-6 instead of 7-8 the next few years, I would say yes but unfortunatley its just too rich for our small market blood.

Tallinder would do a lot of good for this team. Not at the expense of Carter, though
