Why would they do this? Is he on a one-way contract?

Tambellini, please jump all over this.

He's in his fourth year as a pro. He is subject to waivers if he is sent down to the AHL.

Oh damn, time flies.

He won't be anything special but should be picked up ...

I thought he looked pretty good from the games I saw. Nothing spectacular, but plenty good enough that someone will likely claim him.

He can make an adequate 4th liner now and possibly a 3rd liner in the near future. Maybe this will light a fire under his enigmatic you know what

Somone like the Islanders should pick him up... there was a rumor at the 2004 draft that the Canucks had Kaspar ranked #9 on their lists, maybe they go after him? IDK

I don't see that happening. We already have way to many young guns, now we need some real guns. The Canucks need a bona fide SUPERSTAR, something the Sedin Twins are not.

Pretty glad we got Schneider instead. Unless Kaspar has top-6 potential, I don't see the Canucks making a claim.

Question. If a team claims him does he have to go to their NHL roster? Or does he go straight to the AHL?

He goes to their NHL roster. If that team tries to send him down, they'd have to put him on waivers again, and San Jose gets first crack and automatically get to send him down.

I believe he has to go on an NHL roster, if one of Wellwood/Pettinger gets claimed then I see Canucks picking him up without hesitation.

How did Wilson feel about him in San Jose? The Leafs would have an early crack at him.

In the perfect world the Lightning would waive Roberts and claim Kaspar.

I would have to imagine somebody claims him. No doubt he's an enigma but he is talented. I always thought part of his problem might be focus though. I don't think it's necessarily hockey sense, or necessarily desire, but rather focus. There are some prospects who are intensely self-motivated and focussed and intense. Kaspar never struck me as that kind of player.

I remember when he was with the 67s. He demonstrated plenty of talent and made you believe he could dominate the league but it just didn't happen. Similarly he seems incapable of being a consistent presence in the AHL. I haven't seen enough of him since his days in Ottawa to say what the missing link is, but if you'd told me 3 or 4 years ago that Kaspar would get waived to keep Brad Staubitz on the roster (as a winger no less) I'd have laughed.

Why do Canucks fans always salivate at the thought of picking up a fringe player every time he hits waivers?
