Is The Sean Avery Hate Justified?

Through lots of observation and reading here on these boards, I have noticed that Sean Avery is the most hated man in the NHL right now, but how does he stack up against the most hated players in the last ten years?

In my opinion he hasn't really done anything that bad. Claude Lemieux was hated for his brutal cheapshot on Kris Draper. Ulf Samualsson was hated for ending Neely's career. Gary Suter was hated for his crosscheck on Paul Kariya. Todd Bertuzzi was hated for punch to the back of Steve Moore's head. Sean Avery is hated for a few dives, and blocking Brodeur's vision with his hands? What am I missing? I know he has been in a few fights, but there is seriously no dirt on this guy but everybody hates him.

So why does he get all this hate when he hasn't done anything really that terrible at all?

It's really not. And hating somebody you don't know is pretty dumb.

He's hated due to the way he carries himself, on and off the ice, with a seeming disregard for honor or sportsmanship.

Is it enough to justify being hated? I don't think so, but I can sort of see where people are coming from. He does step on a lot of toes with the things he says or does, sometimes for no other reason to draw attention.

He's an *** from what videos I've seen of him. He's just smug and very arrogant. I saw that video of him on TSN and his 9 minute thing on ESPN and I have no idea how anyone could put up with him.

yes, he is a jerk off the ice too

Im sure any Kings fan can tell you how he has ruined the team, and particularily, Dustin Brown

It is not a coincidence that all the team leaders refused to speak to him

Classic example of a *****

Or he's hated for a few dives, blocking Brodeur's vision, making generalizations about french Canadian players, mocking Dustin Brown's life choices, actively pursuing other interests during the off season. Dunno, probably more reasons.

Both are not reasons to dislike the guy, guess hockey players can't have any side interests. Blocking Brodeur's vision was a classic!

Being a Ranger fan, I couldn't help but laugh at the game against us tonight. It was expected since the start of the day. I like the guy and still laugh at almost everything he does.

He isn't your average star player, your average hitter, average scorer... He adds a fantastic touch to the game. His job is one of a kind.

So he is not allowed to do what he wants on his own free time?

I love him.

I think if more players had his passion this league would be much more entertaining than it is now. The NHL has passed various rules that have sucked the life out of what was once a great league. I still love the NHL but I miss the 80s

Well Elisha Cuthbert was smart enough to break up with him. By the way, what exactly did he do to Dustin Brown? All I've read here is making fun of Brown's lifestyle choices? What is meant by that exactly?

Clearly a rhetorical question since you added the emotes, but I didn't say they were my reasons alone, you can check the original thread about his internship for responses if you want my reasoning for including it as a reason.

So maybe someone can answer me this? Why do we pay so much attention to a guy who isnt good enough to get more than 18 goals in an NHL season. Seriously look it up. How is a guy who is no better than what Steve Moore would have been get so much press? He isnt a great player and it is an extreme stretch to say he is a good player. A clown? Yes. And while I know a lot of people on here are young, the truth is anyone that watched hockey a number of years ago knows that if he was in the NHL in the O-6 era Gordie Howe would have given him a few bloody chicklets by now just for being a joke.

Because he is entertaining even if you hate him

the league used to have a few "villians" if you will on every team. No its so tame the few that are like that are considered the anti-christ by some fans.

All the Hitler hate is totally unjustified. I mean the people that actually KNEW him said he was a swell guy.
