Toronto/Ottawa/Colorado

To Ottawa: Vesa Toskala + Marek Svatos + Toronto's 3rd Round Pick

To Colorado: Martin Gerber + Antoine Vermette + Ottawa's 3rd Round Pick + Christoph Schubert

To Toronto: Ottawa/San Jose's 1st Rounder (Its from Ottawa) + Colorado's First Rounder + Peter Budaj + other stuff a prospect maybe

I am kind of just throwing this out there it may be a bad or horrible proposal, but I would like it to happen

What Ottawa loses:
Martin Gerber, 1st Round pick, Antoine Vermette
What Ottawa Gains:
Vesa Toskala, Marek Svatos

What Colorado loses:
Marek Svatos, Peter Budaj, and a 1st
What Colorado Gains:
Antoine Vermette, Martin Gerber, Ottawa's 3rd Round pick,

What Toronto Loses:
Vesa Toskala, 3rd Round Pick
What Toronto Gains:
Ottawa/SJ's First Round Pick, Colorado's First Round Pick, Peter Budaj, + a Prospect from Colorado

Can't see how this would really hurt either of the 3 teams..

Colorado improves in goaltending, but loses a little bit of scoring..

Ottawa improves in goaltending, and improves in scoring (I admit I am an Ottawa fan )

Toronto gets a **** load of picks that they could use to rebuild their team fast as they would end up having 3 first round picks to trade with or use..

PS: I am not REALLY sure how this would effect the other two teams besides Ottawa, but I think it could be an improvement for all.. (Wouldn't help toronto really this year, besides getting them a very low pick).

You're not getting 2 first rounders for Vesa "They pulled me in a shootout!" Toskala. Furthermore, Ottawa isn't giving up that much for anything less than a stud goaltender.

Somehow, I don't think you'd get two first rounders, a goaltender and a prospect for Toskala. Seems a bit much to me. Goaltenders don't have high value these days.

We have a very good prospect goalie coming up who will most likely be in Ottawa next year.. Also we are not just getting a goalie we are also getting Marek Svatos back (Our right wing depth is very suspect, and Alfy is getting older by the day). Toskala would be our starter until Elliot can come up and steal it.

Doesn't mean they overpay for one, though. They could look elsewhere for somebody cheaper, if that's the price.

Also Colorado gets ripped off large. Suppose Gerber = Budaj, and you believe that Svatos > Vermette, then why is Colorado trading a 1st rounder for a 3rd rounder and Schubert?

Ugh, you're one of us which makes it even worse. If Elliott is coming up next year, why do we need 3 goaltenders (If you include Auld in the equation). Svatos is meh. I'd rather Ottawa take a run at a guy like Chris Kunitz who'd be a much better fit for Murray and Hartsburgh. Svatos isn't a "Murray" type.

I'd much rather weather the storm with Gerber, keep the first rounder for the deadline and definitely hold on to Vermette. This deal makes us a worse hockey team.

That is an improvement from

heat - spezz -alfy

This is a great trade - for Toronto. Everyone else get screwed, especially Colorado.

No thanks, from a Colorado POV.

If we're giving up Svatos, we want someone significantly better than Budaj, and Gerber doesn't fit that bill.

Except you forgot to add Kelly in your current scenario. I'd rather have Vermette over Svatos any day.

I'm not sure Gerber is better than Budaj

I know Gerber isn't Svatos and a 1st better than Buddaj (even when subtracting Vermette and a 3rd)

No they wouldn't, or at least I hope they wouldn't. I don't see what the big deal with Toskala is, I don't think he is that great, probably better than Budaj. Still, I would rather see the Avs go after someone like Halak with Svatos than Toskala.

This wouldn't improve our scoring, it would just make us worse defensively and Toskala is a maybe a marginal improvement over Gerber... but not worth a 1st rounder and not somebody I want to pretend is our saviour for the next 5 years.

Svatos had 32 goals in his rookie year. He has 40 goal, 60 points potential. I think that's enough for Toskala, considering goalies aren't getting much more than 1st-2nd rounders these days.

It goes for 1 more year after this one. But are you really going to trade a 1st rounder for a mediocre 1 1/2 year rental? I would assume that somebody trading a 1st for Toskala would see him as some sort of saviour that they'd like to resign.
