Steve Downie

I know that Downie was recently re-assigned, but I've watched a bit of the Flyers, both pre-season and regular season and I thought he looked alright. I know there's a few guys ahead of him on the depth chart.

The flyer's aren't having the season they've wanted, and I got to wondering, what would it take for the Blackhawk's to obtain Downie?

I don't imagine his value is really high, but he's not worthless either.

I'm not sure how important he is to the Flyer's, both now and in the future.

To Chicago:

Steve Downie

To Philadelphia:

Brent Sopel, Jack Skille

I think Sopel would help the Flyer's on the back end. He's stepped up his game as of late.

Are you not familiar with the bad blood between Aliu and Downey? Chicago is very high on Aliu. Tallon was very, very impressed with him at prospects camp. He just isn't quite ready yet. He's still a potential monster. No way the Hawks risk picking up Downie for that reason alone. Thank God, because Downie is a jerk.

And that is way overpayment. An NHL quality defensive defenseman plus a decent third line winger for a forward that can't even make your team after a few years of trying?

I don't have a problem trading Sopel though. Then we could get Barker up.

Steve Downie is going to turn into a great 2nd line forward. An Avery with more offensive upside.

His points and PIM in juniors are really similar to Darcy Tucker's.

I'm not sure the Flyers have the cap room to take on Sopel.

I personally don't see him above a 3rd liner. An Avery (there's something to aspire to - aim high) with less offensive skill.

If he's so wonderful, the Flyers can keep him.

I don't think the OP is a Flyers fan. Possibly, but it sounds like he/she just happened to see them play and was looking at Downie in particular. You won't see "Trade Value of Downie" on the Flyers boards, that is for sure.

Hahah. First off, for Downie? Really? Secondly, Downie and Aliu co-existing? Good luck.

flyers probably shouldn't be taking back multiple contracts. cap space is a concern too.

that's a wash since i don't see the flyers trading downie.

You are going to love Kyle Beach then.

Hasn't he learned his lesson from when Lucic laid the smack down on him?

Beach is an agitator, but he isn't a jerk. He plays that way to help his team. He isn't a punk that goes out and tries to hurt people and is a bad teammate. Beach's teammates speak highly of him. Downie crosschecks his teammates in the mouth and knocks out their teeth. Bit of a difference huh?

Beach is also maturing and has said he will be changing his game. He learned while he was up with the Hawks in preseason that he can play a skill game and doesn't have to get in fights all the time. I am not worried about Beach.

Aliu I am still worried about, but that's a different discussion.

Need I remind you of the last time they were on a team together? It's not gonna happen again for sure, because Downie's certainly not going to the Blackhawks

He later apologized and said he didn't know it was a medical condition, if I am remembering correctly. No?

Steve Downie is not worth more than most other minor league players. Flyers are better off keeping him and seeing if he develops. If he does, he could be quite useful.
