If he knocks off his immaturity, he could become a very effective player... like a Sean Avery or Jarkko Ruutu. Agitators who actually have some talent.

The Hawks have no use for Downie.

The kids a punk and the Hawks already have Beach and Aliu.

It's not like the Hawks are begging for viable NHL players with the amount of NHL ready prospects they have. Downie would just take another roster spot away from one of the kids.

The last guy in hell I want to see steal a roster spot from one of the young kids we have is Downie.

The suspension for missing Avery was stupid, but I think he was just trying to being an agitating *******, his MO.

Swinging your stick while on the bench at anyone regardless of who it was is dirty!

Eh, not if you never had any real intention of hitting him. It's an absolutely stupid play, and if he meant to make contact then absolutely Eager shouldn't be on this team, but I'm thinking he did it to screw with Avery.

"I pulled a gun and stuck in his face but i was not going to pull the trigger" ...If the intent is there regardless of the scenario he is guilty.

Yes, but sticking a gun in a dudes face is way different from shooting a guy in the face. Thanks for proving my point.

The intent is still there is my point! Even if he he was not trying to hit him with the stick he made the attempt which is cheap.

i dunno, when ben eager was a flyer, he was seen as just another philly goon whose job was simply to cheapshot other players. is he that much different than his time with the flyers?

And that is way overpayment. An NHL quality defensive defenseman plus a decent third line winger for a forward that can't even make your team after a few years of trying?

I don't have a problem trading Sopel though. Then we could get Barker up.
I would imagine, if there was a trade, that Downie and Aliu could forget they once had an issue so that they could each make millions of dollars playing hockey. It's either that, or the Kwikie Mart for both of 'em. I'm pretty sure they finished their juniors careers without axe-murdering each other.

Downie's a jerk? Fair enough, but considering basically everyone on the Spits sided with him, what's Aliu? The guy has size, speed, talent...why'd he drop so far in the draft? Pot, meet kettle.

As a long time follower of Junior hockey ... Eager = Downie
I haven't seen Eager play much lately, so maybe he's made some changes, but they are very similar players. Eager had a horrible attitude on the ice with the Gens as well. Can't speak too much about Downie.

Huh? Eager can skate, but has no offensive skill. Downie skates like he's wearing cement blocks in quicksand, but is a nice passer and is great in the corners. Can't recall Eager leading 3 different teams in the playoffs either. Downie averaged about 2 points a game in reg season and playoffs over his last 2 junior years. Both have brain cramps, but Downie was a far superior junior.

that was on my theology test the other day

and the flyers will not trade downie unless it is in a larger deal (a package of players and picks) By himself, eh is worth more to the Flyers then any other team

Downie has actual hockey talent. Eager hits people and stirs the pot, and that's it.

And my point is that we don't know the intent. Did he swing the stick with no intention whatsoever of hitting him? Pulling a gun with the intention of threatening somebody is nowhere near pulling a gun and intending to use it.

Fine skater, though. Put his wheels on Downie, and you'd have a hell of a player.

I still remember Kaktus and Jonathan getting into a 9 page or so "debate" about Downie vs.Dubinsky when they were both in the minors. Even at about March of last year, Kaktus still defended his argument.

I'd really love to see him attempt to back Downie now.
