Demitra out 3-4 weeks, Canucks need for scoring gets even larger

Just been reported that Demitra will miss 3-4 weeks with a fractured rib or something like that. Anyways, this just means that the need for a top 6 forward skyrocketed even higher than it was for Vancouver. Hopefully Wellwood can prove that he does belong on the team, and Raymond can jump out of his sophomore slump to supply a bit of offense, but even more than before the Canucks need a second line forward.

Trade Bait:
1. Cory Schneider
2. Mason Raymond
3. Sami Salo (NTC)
4. Taylor Pyatt
5. 1st round pick (2009)

Obviously Sundin is an option, but even if he does end up in Vancouver, it'll likely be after Demitra returns, so if Vancouver can get something affordable right now they have to jump on it.

Any proposals that don't involve the usual dumbness (Jordan Staal, Marc Savard or Markus Naslund).

Not the ideal guy but perhaps the Canucks should push for Jason Blake. No idea if he'd actually produce in Vancouver but when he's healthy he could be available.

I don't know if the Nucks are that desperate to add that kind of salary for an additional three years (after this season), just because Demitra is gone for a month.

He would come cheap though.

His contract will force them to say no immediately.

Really depends on desperate they are. In my opinion every day that the Canucks aren't doing everything short of purging their entire farm to get a team around them to make a run with Luongo there is wasted.

If Blake can even get 50 points his contract will be on par with many others of that ilk.

I just think that Vancouver (allegedly) putting all of their eggs in the basket of a wishy-washy Sundin is very disconcerting.

No it doesn't, it just means they failed to properly address it. No one is trading a top 6 forward this time of year just because.

What's the best thing that the Canucks could do at this point, considering they are a team in transition that had limited (to say the least) expectations of success this season?

I know, panic move!

I doubt you want him, but you can have Tyler Arnason...

Minnesota and Gaborik disagrees with that.

I would've proposed Reinprecht for Krajicek, but you guys already traded him.

Have any solid, smart, consistant, responsible, reliable, defensive defenseman available? Preferably one that can actually skate, move the puck, and is effective in transition. Strong leadership qualities wouldn't hurt, either.

You will lose that bet I'm afraid. Demitra hasn't played less than 53 games in a season since 2000-2001.

either way, I think this thread should be closed as Gillis has pretty much come out and said that the Canucks are waiting on Sundin, until he's made a decision, I doubt to see much movement from the Canucks.

The two year, 20 million dollar offer is still on the table to Sundin, meaning the Canucks have little flexibility in terms of movement until he has made up his mind.

I'm sure we can throw in Enver Lisin in there too - might be a nice speedy player to put on a line with the Sedins (if the Bernier thing doesn't work out of course)

Ya...it says 3-4 weeks, I guarantee it is no more than 2-3, which is like 7-8 games, then we'll go from there.

Why would we do that? Enver has been great.

What's the prob? Kyle Wellwood's on pace for a 150pt season.

Pretty sure Gillis isn't going around to other GM's and saying, "Hey i'm desperate for scoring... Wanna dump your old trash on me? I gots some reeeeally nice prospects here."

I can guarentee Schneider wont be traded this season. If Gillies knows what's good for him, he will hold on to Cory, at least till he knows the future of Luongo. I think Schneids could eventually be good as Roberto.

if gaborik has in fact been offered up as much as people are speculating, it makes too much sense for the Nucks and Wild to make a deal (despite being in the same division)...
