Brilliant! Moulson isn't generating enough offense so let's put the healthy scratch Calder on the top line.

Murray is starting to remind me of the former Murray with these type moves.

Preissing, I understand...but Calder....He has been going downhill since his trade to Detroit...He is an "old" NHL player...

I don't understand Murray putting two guys like Brown/Calder around Kopitar...He needs a damn finisher on one side...Brown is a goal scorer, yes, but Kopitar needs a Moller, Frolov or O'Sullivan on the other wing. Brown gives them room and Kopitar sets up the passes.

You have Stoll between two goal scorers, Moller and Frolov, and Kopitar between Brown and Calder...I'd like to see Moller move up to the 1st line.

Dear god. I really hope this is to showcase him for an immediate trade.

So many other options. Bring up Purcell. Move moller to 1st line. Move Sully to first line.

Why not, lets see what happens. That line wasn't all that productive anyway.

Brown Kopitar Moller - Brown and Kopitar are supposed to be stars in this league. Help this kid get better.

Frolov Handzus O'Sullivan - I would like to see Frolov get a chance to play with a real sniper. The Frolov / O'Sullivan combo could be deadly.

Moulson Stoll Simmonds - Good speed, good checking, and still a threat to score.

4th line isn't getting much time right now. I don't have a strong opinion.

I like KINGS17 lines....On the 4th line

Ivanans-Army-Richardson/Boyle

I don't agree with Calder, but I do agree Moulson has been invisible....Even though Moller has only 1 goal I have noticed him more, same with Simmonds....

Funny thing guys....we came into the season thinking Moulson, Purcell, and Boyle were going to have huge impacts. 5 games in Moulson and Boyle are healthy scratches and Purcell is in Manchester.

Moller and Simmonds are still in the line-up...no one expected that.

Why the hate? Moulson outright missed a lot of shots that would have most likely been goals but missed the net. This is a low risk/high reward move when the team has nothing to lose early in the season.

Ill give it a chance and see what happens first before outright dismissing the idea as lunacy.

I would switch Moulson for Calder on the 3rd line. If the Kings can send O'Sullivan back to Manchester to work on his game, they can sit Moulson for a few to get him to work harder. Plus, Calder can't be traded if he isn't playing.

Let's be realistic here; we weren't actually going to leave him to rot in the pressbox all season. He had to get in somewhere sometime. This does help confirm one of my theories about Moulson on the first line though: that TM is putting him there because he wants someone whose primary job is to cycle the puck down low. Just about the only thing Calder's good for is playing below the goal line.

I don't like the Preissing/Harrold switch either but again, they weren't just going to leave him to rot. I only hope that TM is willing to take a similar approach (benching after a single bad game/a few mediocre games) with his goalies.

I don't mind this. As much as you guys like to rag on Calder, he wasn't all that bad last season, even when he could barely grip a stick. He was solid in the corners, on the cycle, and he drove to the net when he got the opportunity. Even if his offensive touch hasn't come back yet, he should be more effective than Moulson who, as far as I can tell, has brought very little to the mix on that top line.

He's not punishing him...he wants to keep his lines balanced.

Calder hasn't been bad at all, it's just that the Kings have a few kids capable of doing what he does so he becomes redundant.

I've heard that explanation a few times, but there's still an inordinate amount of hate for the guy around here for someone who's merely 'redundant'...seems to me like he's become the new whipping boy.

I do.

Let's put this in perspective....Calder scored 7 goals in 65 games and made 2.75 million.

Ivanans had 6 goals in 73 games and made about 450,000.

That's called a BAD investment. Calder is worthless. Get rid of him for all I care. I'd rather see Zeiler.

Calder used to be a 20 goal guy. You can't be happy with those numbers. I don't care who you are. Preissing is a defenseman and he had 8 goals last season, one more than a former 1st line forward in Chicago in Calder. Come on! He is making himself the whipping boy.

BTW, Preissing leads the Kings with a -6.

Seems they do. Calder doesn't suck though. I really don't know what people expect from him. I don't like him on the first line, but I'll wait to see if there is some wierd chemistry with Kopi and Brown before passing final judgement. Hey, Holmstrom seemed like a perennial third liner until paired with Datsyuk and Zetterface.

I do like that TM is willing to bench guys after a bad game or two. With a young team they need to feel some punishment for not showing the right kind of effort. So long as they are rewarding for working hard after being benched then I'm all for it. I wonder if Boyle or Richardson plays Friday/Saturday.

edit: even when Calder was in Chicago his 20 goals seemed more streaky and flukey than something he was consistently capable. I've always seen Calder as a 10-15 goal / 30-35 point guy. Yes, he is definatley overpaid, but he's off the books after this year so it doesn't bother me anymore.

They seem to throw the puck into that right side corner on offense. Most likely he's looking for a good forechecker on the top line. Not a bad experiment, but I'd prefer Sully's tenacity and speed over Calder's wannabe Bertuzzi grit.
