Forsberg and Salo to Sweden next season

According to the swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Peter Forsberg has decided to play in Sweden next season - even if there is no lock-out. And Tommy Salo of the Oilers will join him to play in the team Modo.

Take it for what its worth. Here is the link:

from the caption of the picture:

"BYE, BYE, USA Efter årets NHL-säsong flyttar Peter Forsberg från Denver i Colorado till Örnsköldsvik i Ångermanland."

You don't have to be Swedish to know what that says

Yeah, it's Swedish for "Lacroix will re-sign Kariya"

i wouldn't be surprised if peter is looking at a short term stint in sweden, one maybe two years just to simply heal and play some non brutal hockey, and get some solid conditioning in and then return for a couple more years with the avs...

if not though, best of luck, if your heart is in sweden then by god go home and play, best of luck you are the best

Hear, Hear. He's got the money, he should go where he's happy, as should anyone else. Not all of us can afford to is the problem.

Does Salo really think he has a choice in the matter?

It says that Näslund will join Forsberg in case there is a Lock Out, apart from that nut much interesting, but here goes: Players under NHL contract can't sign with a european team before September 15th and should the problem with the NHLPA and the CBA be resolved every player under NHL contract will leave sweden immediatly.

Blah blah blah speculative fluff, I hate Aftonbladet.

Bengt Hedin ("GM" of Modo) was interviewed today by swedish radio, he denied all rumours and said that it was only speculations. He said that they will more or less only sign players that can stay a whole season, but leave 3-4 spots open for players with NHL-contract. Hedin recently made a trip to North America and paid a visit to Timander, Sundström, Weinhandl and the Sedins to name a few.

What does this mean for Markus Naslund? Does he go back to Sweden to play for Modo too?

I don't know, Forsberg has spent almost a decade in the NHL, and really, what more is there to accomplish? He's pretty much won it all. I wouldn't be surprised if his return to Sweden is permanent.

He said last year that he wants to raise his kids in Sweden and that when he turns 32, which is also when his current contract is up, there's a good chance of him leaving the NHL.

Actually he said he doesn't want to play here until he's in his late 30s. He's 30(31 in July) right now. So if there's a good chance for the Cup in Vancouver, he'll stay. And yes he does want to raise his kids in Sweden after he's done in the NHL.
Besides, Naslund's under contract and likely will only go back if there's a lockout. Until then, he's a Canuck.

Here's the TSN article on Forsberg.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=74162

Evidently all parties involved aren't allowed to talk about it, so I doubt we'll hear anything from Colorado.

Every year Forsberg has apparently decided to play in Sweden next year, but every year he stays in Colorado. Barring a lockout, Forsberg is back in Denver next year.
