Great Job on setting up the list. Did the Rangers get a 2004 pick fron San Jose for the rights to Messier?

Didn't the Blues get a mid round pick this year in return for Nash?

Compensatory picks are not included in my list, as the league has yet to hand them out.

Compensatory picks haven't been awarded yet, but I suspect that Hatcher has a chance of fetching a second round pick. But don't count on it either.

Great

The Caps are having their worst season since the 70's and going to have a top 5 pick... too bad they've traded most of the higher rounds away for 2004. These up coming trades for Gonchar, Kolzig, and/or Witt better get us some picks too

Washington 2004
- 1st rd: 2 (DET, WSH)
- 2nd rd: 1 (WSH)
- 3rd rd: 0
- 4th rd: 0
- 5th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 6th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 7th rd: 0
- 8th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 9th rd: 1 (WSH)

Some highlights:

Carolina has 5 picks in the first day(3 rounds).

Chicago has 6 first day

Edmonton has 4, but has 2 firsts

Philidelphia only has 1- 3rd round pick for the first day

Pittsburgh has 5 first day

Washington has 2-1st rounders

Washington 2004
- 1st rd: 2 (DET, WSH)
- 2nd rd: 1 (WSH)
- 3rd rd: 0
- 4th rd: 0
- 5th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 6th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 7th rd: 0
- 8th rd: 1 (WSH)
- 9th rd: 1 (WSH)
First, the Caps are in darned good shape in the draft. They are likely to get a third 1st rounder out of a Gonchar trade, and may land at least one 2nd rounder in possible trades for Witt, Nylander, Grier, and/or Carter. Anyway, the point is that the final number of Caps' selections is far from clear just yet.

The seventh rounder to Philly was allegedly conditional on the Caps being awarded a compensatory pick should Yushkevich have signed with an NHL club last season. Since Yushkevich signed in Russia, the seventh should still belong to Washington.
