Yashin Contract Covered By Insurance

According to a clause in Yashin's contract, if he missed 30 consecutive games due to injury, the insurance would cover that portion of the contract during his absence.

Last night vs. BUF was game 31. Therefore, NYI will be reimbursed about 2.5-3 mil+ until he returns to the lineup.

I'm not expecting any big moves made at the deadline, but if the right deal came along, this savings could go a long way to making that happen.

Hey blitz, where did you get that dollar amount from? I heard that insurance would cover about 80% of Yashin's salary. Did that mean 80% of games he missed or 80% of his total salary? Just curious if you or anyone knows?

It would have to be 80% of what he misses. If he come back within a week or so he will wind up playing 47 games, something like that. So playing 55-60% of games, but only paying 20% of his salary sounds a bit unrealistic

The 80% insurance coverage is designed for a full 82 game schedule. However, when a player loses only "x" amount of games (above the 30 games) then the insurance will cover 80% of the salary during the injured players absence.

The reason it is not 100% is because of the risk. NYI, the player, and the insurance carrier know that there is an assumed risk in playing a professional sport. That does not entitle the team to avoid responsibility of salary because of injury.

As an FYI, NYI have only insured 4 players this year: Yashin, Peca, Hamrlik, and Aucoin (their 4 highest paid).

I thought, correct me if Iam wrong, that after the 30 games the insurance would kick in and pay 80% of the contract. Yash makes 8.4 mill this year /82 games = $102,439 per game. So the insurance will pay the isles 80% of $102,439 or $81,951 EACH game Yash misses the rest of the way. Where do you get the 2.5 million??

No. The insurance covers 80% of the players salary for 'x' games. However, Yashin must miss 30 consecutive games for the insurance to cover that portion (retroactively reimbursed) and the rest of his games lost to injury.

81K x 30games = 2.4 mil + (b/c he is missing more than 30 games)
