most of the names on here on not under rated by any means. I do agree with Mikko Koivu he is a very talented player who gets over shadowed by his brother in MTL, but it wont last long after the great season hes having this year.

There's a search function:

Most Underrated Player in the NHL
http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t...ht=under+rated
it's 6 pages long.

Mikko is starting to get his name out there but playing in a non-hockey market makes him ess noticeable.

When you hear "elite" players you think AO, Sid, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Malkin but Iginla is almost right there with them. He finished right up there in points last year (third behind AO and Malkin) and starts this season with 10 points in 8 games.
You forget, the Wild play in Hockey Town

Ribeiro is a good choice.

My vote goes to Josh Georges, defenceman extraordinaire!

Agreed.

Brunette and Ray Whitney.. every year in 1-year pools.. I always used to get them in the last rounds.

Brunette could of been an 1,000 point player had he not been stuck on expansion teams for his entire career. He'll probably hit about 700 before he retires.

Whitney, on the other hand, could come VERY close to 1,000 points if he continues to play. He'd be the quietest 1,000 point player in some time.

I think even NHL GM's underrate them.. Whitney makes just $3.5M (less than MICHAEL RYDER!!) and Brunette makes just $2.33M!!!!!

Agreed.

Underrated players are players who have produced and produced, but no one still mentions their name.

Mikko Koivu was highly touted as a prospect and he's still a huge thing in Minnesota. Where-as, some of the other guys listed around here are really underrated.

You also get the Dennis Wideman and Keith Ballard mentions.. both are great young players.. but I really don't see how you can say a young player is underrated. They are still making a name for themselves.

In all honesty, when I look for underrated players, I'm thinking of guys who are UFA eligible and beyond.

I'm just going to come out and say it: Jonathan Cheechoo

No one gives him credit for anything he does, and although the Thornton certainly helped with the Rocket Richard campaign, Cheechoo still truly is one of the better goal scorers in the league.

Surprised no one has mentioned Patrick Sharp yet. He's been underrated for a while but with all the talk of him being underrated, Sharp may in fact become overrated or at least accurately rated.

Kopitar. Maybe not underrated so much as under appreciated though. You hardly hear anything about him, despite how good of a player he is, and at such a young age and on such a bad team.

Considering Mikko Koivu has been mentioned about 50 times already, I think you've invalidating your own point (first sentence) by naming him yet again.

I'll go with Keith Ballard. Didn't know much about him when he was in Phoenix but the more I watch him, the more I can see why Florida would have wanted him so badly.

Why would you give Kesler the Selke over Koivu? Koivu plays the PK, PP, and is a top line center for the Wild. He is much better offensively than Kesler, and on defence I would argue he is also better. I am not saying Koivu should get the Selke - but I am just saying that he should get it before Kesler.

The Selke is a tough award to award to anyone. There are a whole lot of excellent two way players in the league. It is really hard to quantatatively judge who is the better defensive forward.
