2008-09 Calgary Hitmen

Anybody else here follow the Hitmen?

Tonight, they go into Prince Albert to face the Raiders, and hopefully make it 7 straight wins. For what was supposed to be a re-building year, this team sure is off to a big start, currently 13-3 in the season.

Sonne, Kozun, Bortis, Rowinski and Postma are all lightin' it up in the point column.

Dave Lowry is doing a great job with this team.

Don't forget Martin Jones in goal, he may be the most underated goalie in the WHL and is showing why LA gave him a 3 year deal...

Yeah no kidding, Jones is looking very solid right now, having won his last 5 starts. I also liked what I saw from Snider in his start against the Rebels.

Yah I mean you feel bad for Spence but at the end of the day Jones gives you a better chance to win...I heard Spence caught on in the OHL somewhere....

The Hitmen are a well run organization. Better run then most junior squads....Kelly Kisio has done a great job with this team and I think it was a natural move to go upstairs and let Lowry take the reigns....

Anyone go to the Hitmen games at all? They are facing Negrin and the Kooteney Ice tonight at the dome. Good chance to see a flames prospect in action.

I listened to last nite's game against the medicine hat tigers on the radio. The hitmen are a very strong team and dominated most of the play. The tigers goalie stood on his head and Jones did a great job for the hitmen when called upon. Hitmen should repeat as champs of the east and make it back to the east final. Kisio should be the GM of the flames he is so good. The hitmen always have a good team and the WHL has a little bit higher turnover ratio than NHL.

I go to two/three a year, in fact I've never seen them lose. My first game this year is, November 30th against the Wheat Kings.

What a game tonight by the Hitmen, winning 6-1 over the Prince Albert Raiders for their 9th straight win. Brett Sonne is lighting it up, having moved into the WHL scoring lead tonight passing Evander Kane. Their record on the season is now 22-4-1-0. Not bad for a team that was supposed to be in a re-building stage.

In other WHL Flames-related news:

Mitch Wahl had 3 points (1g, 2a) tonight in the Spokane Chiefs' 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

In the Kootenay Ice's 7-6 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings, both John Negrin and Keith Aulie had 1 assist each for their teams.

The three that automatically come to mind are LW Bostjan Golicic, RW Brandon Kozun and C Brendan Rowinski.

LW/C Kyle Bortis is a free agent, and is someone I would love to see the Flames extend an invite into camp.

Plante started off badly. He asked for a trade because he wasn't going to be getting the minutes because his play was so poor (this was before the season started at training camp or something like that). He missed the first few games and then rescinded his demand and rejoined the team. His bad attitude carried over and his play was subpar. This all happened in the first 13 games or so and since then couldn't tell ya besides it doesn't look like he mans the point on the PP, or if he does, it's the second unit. Postma and Stone have first PP time.

Not surprised to see Kisio active before the deadline. Good pickup in Broda. Wonder if that means no Backlund for the Hitmen? I've read and heard rumours that they may try to get his rights from Kelowna. Either way the team just got stronger and probably the team to beat right now.

With their 31st home win tonight (7-2 over the Rebels), the Hitmen set a new franchise record with most home wins.

Man how I would love to see the Flames draft Brandon Kozun.

Anyone go watch Backlund take on the Hitmen last night? Thoughts and reviews on him if you did.

Calgary will be facing either Edmonton or Prince Albert in the first round. They play a tiebreaker game on Tuesday in PA to decide who gets to face the Hitmen. Definetly the team to beat this year.

Well we are getting atleast one BOA this year in the playoffs. Oil Kings won in overtime to clinch 8th place. I'm excited as I'll be able to go to a couple playoff games now. I'm guessing the Hitmen sweep Edmonton. At most I can see the Oil Kings getting it to five games.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to catching as many Hitmen playoff games as possible. I'm pretty excited for it to start.
