Any updates? That's a huge loss off your team's powerplay and thorn in the side of my fantasy team for a bit. I hear he's suposed to be skating early this week......and it is early next week now haha.

Anything?

New video up on Panthers' site, McCabe skated yesterday and today. Could start practicing with the team later this week, according to JM.

Can't wait till he's back. Besides our PP needing him, I think he will be a big help with our scoring 5 on 5. Our defense has been scoring alot of goals and he is one of our best defenseman in terms of getting the shot through traffic and on goal which IMO will create alot of rebounds. And with us playing aggressive we should get to our fair share of rebounds.

" Bryan McCabe said his strained back is getting better. He has been skating on his own the past three days and shooting the puck some. He said his back still feels stiff and sore, but he's definitely making progress and he hasn't had spasms for a day and a half. McCabe said he hopes to start practicing with the team soon."

Miami Herald:

Spoke with Bryan McCabe today, says he's feeling much better and he's now skated three straight days. Says he hopes to get into a practice in the coming days and wants to be on the west coast trip next week. So that's good news.

I don't like that acronym - sounds like an infection you get on your tongue when you talk too much

Nah, it's a heart problem. My heart goes pitty-pat, not sure which of the Panthers are going to show up tonight. I hope it's the hard skating, hard hitting ones, not the Minessota Wild or St. Louis Blues ones. If it's the former, that's all the medication I will need, thank you. I appreciate your concern for my health.

Here's the latest?

"Bryan McCabe was one worn out looking dude after his practice today. The guy went hard. Took him at least 10 minutes to compose himself before he could talk to Craigervini and the FSN cameras. He was just beat. "I have to keep working hard to get my legs and my lungs back,'' McCabe said. "Riding the bike isn't going to do it.''

He knows his conditioning is going to get better on a daily basis and as long as his back holds up, he'll be OK in a few days. It appears he's going to keep practicing with the team, Pete DeBoer saying he's at least a week out -- two at the worst. The plan is for McCabe to come on the west coast jaunt, and possibly play on Thursday against Joe Torre and the LA Dodgers.

What confuses me is that the announcers during last night's game said that McCabe had hairline fractures on two vertabrae and would be out quite a long time. This makes no sense.

Plus, McCabe was quoted yesterday as saying he hadn't had back spasms for a day and a half--but had been taking shots. I don't know which of you have ever "done" a back, even slightly, but the thought of taking shots makes me twinge. My guess (and hope) is that he's doing better than he even thinks. All that twisting involved in simply taking a shot has to be a test of the back.

The announcers said the fractures were 100 and 98% healed. That was the first I'd heard of the fractures, too, but they did say they were almost healed and he'd be back soon.

same here. found that a little surprising (c'mon - where's the local coverage on this???). so the initial reports out of toronto WERE true.

What do you people think this means for Ballard? He's been playing pretty solid out there. He'll probably end up losing some minutes, no?

Only on the powerplay. If anything the minutes for Murphy, Welch, Skrastins will go down.

The latest from the Miami Herald, which is quite promising:

"Bryan McCabe also participated in the full practice and I would think he's on the trip to Nashville if for nothing else but to keep practicing. Would not be surprised to see him in the lineup come Sunday in Atlanta, although I would surmise he probably doesn't come back until the Cats go to Los Angeles."

Worst case, he comes back in three (and I'm going to the LA game with my son).

even then, considering he has 9 points and bouwmeester has two, i'd probably keep him on the other point next to mccabe.

Today's Miami Herald (paper version), DeBoer says that it takes 7 to 10 days at least, so probably after road trip.

DeBoer today said that McCabe will accompany the team on the road trip, but he wasn't sure if he'd actually play Thursday.

he ll play thursday. He's healthy a 70% up to game condition mccabe is better than 95% of the d men in this league. He's gold on the PP and gold in terms of breakout passes and being physical. You guys are lucky to have him!

I don't want him to be 70% and back with the possibility of re-injuring himself, I'd rather he we wait til he's 100%.

I'm saying hes fine in health terms. I'm speaking of 70% conditioning wise ready for a game. That means he's going to play.
