He didn't look very promising at the time of the trade.
The Flyers were able to give a young dmen significant minutes, and live with his mistakes, in 06-07. The Thrashers won their division that year, and he likely would not have been afforded the same opportunities to develop that he received in Philly. It's really not as bad of a trade as people seem to make it out to be.
Trading Zhitnik for Meyers and a 3rd(?) is far worse than dealing Coburn for Zhitnik in the midst of a playoff run.
