How good could the Isles have been.....

If they never traded away all of those players. Im a huge Rangers fan but i gotta admit the Isles would be a power house if they kept these guys.
Luongo
Jokinen
Redden
Berard (lets forget the injury for now)
Bertuzzi
Chara
JP Dumont
They probably would have picked Heatly or Gaborik instead of DP with Luongo on the team.
The infamous #2 pick in the Yashin trade could have gotten them Spezza.
Now granted its not a definite that all of these guys would have stayed with the team but im just saying "what if"

Redden was traded for Berard, so they couldn't have both.

And they (Milbury) traded Luongo minutes before they picked Dipietro. So while not technically true, they basically had Luongo on the team and still picked Dipietro (had the #1 pick and knew they would take Dipietro).

Who knows how Jokinen would have developed if he wasn't coached by Keenan. Would he have been a bust? A Brad Isbister type of player, or the player he is now.

How would Bertuzzi have turned out if he didn't end up in Vancouver playing with Naslund?

Would Chara be the top defenseman he is now if he didn't go to Ottawa?

A lot of what ifs. Not just what if they kept these players, but how would these players turn out playing for the Islanders.

Jokinen was a waste of space on the Islanders, he was horrendous!

I think he was one of those guys who just needed a change of scenery. Honestly, could you blame him?

I'm just glad I'm not an islanders fan, especially during the Mad Mike era. Honestly how wasn't that guy fired?

The whole organization from ownership on down seems is alittle off, Wang needs to stop micro managing that team. Since when does a computer billionaire know anything about running a team?

I don't know, let's go ask the Dallas Mavericks how their team is doing.

Or you can ask New York Islander fans how their team is doing?

Answer: Bad.

I don't really care about the Mavericks. I care about what Wang does and it's not good.

Exactly. Stars make the Iginla deal deal eight days a week. You never can assume future Cup wins. The Iginla deal DIRECTLY helped them capture one.

As for the NYI scenario, there is absolutely no saying that that admitted boatload of talent would have developed in the wretched losing environment of Long Island in the late 90s. The franchise possessed negligent ownership, a dubious GM and a carousel of coaches.

That said, I sure would have liked to have found out.

Some other less bad trades, but still good young players they gave up on nonetheless: Raffi Torres, Tim Connolly, Taylor Pyatt, Eric Brewer, Jan Hlavac.

Why was Luongo traded? What was the rationale behind it?

They wanted to draft DiPietro so they traded Luongo and Jokinen for Parrish and Kvasha and drafted DiPietro instead of Heatley or Gaborik...
