I Know.....the Wild offered Hossa a substantial amount of $, the same offers they supposedly made to Gaborik. In money and in term. I have to admit, they would be a lethal combination. After this season Saku Koivu might want to come to Minny. I read that last night. That would be exciting to have both Koivu bros. Either one would be able to center Hossa and Gaby, should they choose to sign here. Put Kim Johnson and somone else on waivers and you've got room to make it happen.

The Ducks have many holes to fill in the defense and second line before thinking about major UFA signings. Maybe if Scotty takes a Teemu-esque discount and Beauchemin signs for 3 mil and Kunitz is traded for a 2nd line center...

Ain't gonna happen, too much needed elsewhere.

Hate to break it to you but the Kings will be dead last again this year. It is going to be between Atlanta, LA, Isles for the #1 pick.

Leafs will be in the 3-5 pick range though

The Kings can along with even more to spend. They are barely over the league minimum.

Hossa - Kopitar - Gaborik

The story is bull.

You have a source close to you? Why don't you just say who it is?

Of course, at market value that's a heck of a chunk of any team's cap room.
Then they would negotiate. Not sign with a different team.

Personally I think the only reason he started this story now of all times is because Hossa was the only person to not look pathetic last night against the sharks. Convinient that the Wings get handed to them by a team that played clearly better just before this story broke out.

Just rumor mongering.

If there's any truth to that at all, that would be one scary line to go up against.

PS: Who is that in your avatar, Doc?

Not to mention, where do they fit? Perry/Selanne have the top two RW positions on lock and you have to think at some point they want to get Bobby Ryan in there (even if as a converted LW). Kunitz would also have to be moved for sure, though I'd have no issues with that if we got these two guys.

Both guys would have to take quite a discount for Anaheim to pick them up as a couple, I'd say maximum $5M each. Would they be willing to do that? Doubtful. For the sake of argument though, let's say they would. I guess the Ducks would need to do the following:

1) Convert Teemu to LW
2) Package Ryan, Kunitz+ for a young (and cheap), very good 2nd line C
3) Let Pahlsson walk and make Carter the 3rd-line C
4) Resign Nieds at a discount

etc...

all in all, not likely the pair end up as Ducks.

There are probably a few KHL teams that can make that happen. Wouldn't that be interesting...

The cap would have to go up about 10 million more for us to be able to afford that under the cap.

anyone think that they will sign for much less if they choose to 'package' them selves? (as in, idividually, maye they are looking in the 7 million $ range, but as a 'duo' maybe they will sign for 5 million or so? 5.5 etc etc....)

they have to understand the finacial game and cap at this point.

if they really want to play together on a team that has a shot at the finals, they must know they may have to sacrafice some cash for themselves to make it happen??

No, I can't see that happening. 7.5 Minimum. If anyone takes a discount, it may be Zetterberg @ 6.75.

If Hossa and Gaborik do pull a Selanne/Kariya, Kopecky please feel free to join them.

If the Islanders land John Tavares in the draft, the Lighthouse project is started this summer - I could see the Islanders using their huge amount of capspace and get it done.

Of course, this is pending that the Islanders actually care about ending this rebuild after this year and focus their franchise around Tavares and Okposo.

The Islanders will have the most capspace out of all 30 NHL teams this year, as they are already substantially beneath the cap as it is now.

Interesting, if true: as not many teams can handle that type of salary for both those players.

They better be taking a discount. I don't think anyone is going to want to gut their lineup to get 50 games out of half the package.

I don't put much stock in that theory. They were offered the oppportunity to do so this year for a good team. They turned that down. Plus, I don't see many teams having the cap space without making other moves to fit them in. That includes the Kings.

The Isles and Thrashers could also make it work. The problem is that no winning team will have the space for both of them.

Then again, if you add Hossa and Gaborik to either of those teams, they suddenly become a playoff contender.

I don't know about Gaborik, no thanks. But, the way Hossa is playing, getting him re-signed has got to be right there on the top of the list with Z and Mule. It's possible next season for Lidstrom could be his last, which would open up a lot of cap space in 10/11(as well as a big hole on D). Only time will tell.

Maybe Hossa will reunite with Morrow, damn winterhawks.
