That would be awesome. Who would we have to give up? Last time we tried they wanted Theo, Markov and something else I don't remember.

I would love to see this guy on the Habs but I don't see us making a big trade for him this year. Maybe next year, but I think this year we focus on the cup and maybe in the offseason think about whether we re-sign some of the guys we have or go after a guy like Kovalchuk who is pretty much a complete forward line on his own.

Here's the article RDS is referring to....there's a slight problem though...they mention Toronto and Montreal but also mention that Kovalchuk want victories....which leaves Montreal....

What is his cap hit?

For the record I'd be surprised if we picked him up due to cost and current team need, but then again weirder things have happened.

You want Kovalchuk? You'd be giving a Kostitsyn+McDonnaugh+1st EASY, or something to that extent. I don't see it happening.

Fantastic player, I love watching him, but I wouldn't want him to be the guy we invest superstar money in. He just costs too many goals against to be worth the 10mil/per, or whatever he'll get paid.

Man, wouldn't it be great to have that offence...

But, we'd lose so many key players going the other way that team chemistry may be affected. Our team, for the most part, seems pretty tight as a group - something that was missing say 4-5 years ago - I like the team we have now.

Having said that - I wouldn't be adverse to trading some depth to obtain a good, solid defenceman. But, if we play as well as we did last evening on D, maybe we'll be alright in that department, too.

First, this guy want to be out of this team! It's a good time to trade for him. His value is high, but considering he doesn't want to play in Atlanta, his value gonna drop a little bit.

And second, he doesn't have a great ethic, but look at Kovalev. He didn't have one and we all see, right now, that's it was just due to bad team spirit.

You can't pass on a 50 goals scorer and 90-100pts. He's one of the best player in the NHL, and I'm sure he would be happy to play on a team like Montreal with many Russians players (Kovalev, Markov, Kost bros).

For sure Waddell will ask a lot, but this guy is a superstar. Big player that is very young. I prefer Kovalchuk to Gaborik. At least, he's never injured.

WTF Atlanta is doing? Lose Savard, getting rid of Hossa and now they want to trade Kovalchuk? I dont understand, they want to lose or what? Why this team exist if they trade all their star player?

Southern Expansion team

And Bettman want a team in Las Vegas, come on...

I think they are doing very good in the race for Tavares though.

I just don't see Gainey trusting Waddell again, after the Hossa fiasco.

Yeah, and they will trade him in 3 years for 3 prospect in a deal 'a la Hossa'
