You have to love the timing of these polls...

Flames made another poll when they were on a hot streak, trying to get favor on their side. Now a nashville fan starts one when the flames are in a bit of a slump, and nashville is on a tear.

Honestly, what do you expect? We could make a new poll after every single win/loss...That'd be great!

Way to pick your timing though.

I voted Nashville early on, and it stays that way.

I know what many of you are thinking though. 'But Mizral! You said Nashville because of goaltending, and now Calgary has Kiprussoff!'.

Well, I think Kiprusoff has to play longer than 30 or 40 games or whatever it's been to proove himself to me. I do not consider him one of the best goaltenders in the West on the virtue of one good half-season.

This isn't to say Kiprusoff stinks. Just that Vokoun is still the more proven commodity.

You are right. Only your opinion is correct. People who think otherwise are clearly wrongheaded.

Heh, that was my point, see how those Flames fans that figured we'd be sitting at #11 now while CGY was riding high at #4. Funny how times change.

now, normally i would agree that this poll was superfluous and unnecessary..

HOWEVER...

before the season, there was a heated debate between a couple of flames fans and a couple of predators fans(mostly it was smokeyclause\nomorekids vs evman1510\lanny mcdonald) we agreed that arguing wasn't going to prove anything, and that we'd simply let the results speak for themself. the whole debate came about in some kind of "predict the standings" thread. another flames fan had made a post that said something like, "this will be the year calgary breaks out" and went on to put Nashville in 15th. well, over the next week, preds and flames fans went back and forth, "you're going to stink! you've got no scoring and no goaltending!" "no, YOU're going to stink! you dumped off POWERPLAY QUARTERBACK andy delmore!" finally, an impasse was reached, and we agreed to return to the subject a couple times during the year.

and here we are...both in a playoff spot, though calgary has probably the hardest schedule i've seen for the rest of the year, where nashville's, save one road trip, has one of the easiest. personally, i hope BOTH teams make it, because I'd like to see the Blues out, but...just let everyone know that there IS some point to these polls.

Isn't that exactly what you're doing?

These teams have 19 and 18 games left respectively, a lot can happen in that time. It's 5 teams going at it with 4 playoff spots are available. It's looking good for both these clubs, still lots of time left though.

For the record, I say Nashville finishes 6th, Calgary takes 8th. 2 points seperate them at the end of the year. These teams are VERY similar and could both cause their 1st round opponent (should both of them make it) a lot of trouble

I will say this, I think the Flames aren't that far off from the Preds. If Kiprusoff prooves himself long term and Sutter can pick up another goal scorer (or Kobasew or Saprykin develop into one) on par with a Stevey Sullivan, I'd say the teams are pretty darn evenly matched.

I was the guy who reposted the poll. First of all I never said that the Preds would miss the playoffs. The Flames also maybe slumping now but it figures when you go on a road trip that lands in Montreal, Ottawa, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Colorado. Pretty tough trip to go 2 wins and 3 loses on. The flames have another trip that is as tough as that, so the preds better put the flames out now while they have a chance.

I said they were close and both would make the playoffs in the first poll, I said it again in the second poll, I guess I have to stick with it in the third.

Defensively, Calgary is better. Other than the last month I believe Nashville has the better goaltending, and better overall offense, while Calgary has a few better individual goal scorers, Nashville has more depth offensively.

The good news is both will make the playoffs this season, and both have built solid teams for the future.

Looks like the Flames took this one in reality, but both teams made the postseason and so fans of both teams should be overjoyed.

here here. my argument with lanny, back in the fall, was a mutual round of "your team will be in last, we'll be in eighth," and we resolved to discuss it later, and i conjectured that "hey, crazy things can happen. maybe BOTH teams will make the playoffs."

indeed they did
