I`d probably do this trade, I`d love to be able to get a package like that without sacrificing any of our top 6 forwards....(oh wait we don`t have 6) Our top 4 guys I mean. Hainsey and Hossa are completely useless if were going to make any sort of a playoff run and loosing them wouldn`t bother me so much. But without Zednik no way we land those 3 guys. We`d have to throw in maybe a first or one of our top prospects. And since were still rebuilding I`d pass.
I thought it was a good deal for both teams. This is how I broke the trade down. It has been widely known that Carolina wants two good prospects for O'Neill. So, I gave them Hossa and Hainsey. Which I think is fair. I gave them Zednik for Cole and a third round pick(we have two) for Sean Hill.
I would do it because Cole is in the deal. But I don't think Rutherford is that stupid.
Cole seems to be very overatted on these boards. Aside from there playoff run a few years back he hasn`t proven much. He`s a decent player who`d be good on the habs 3rd line but I wouldn`t be willing to give up too much to get him.
Zed and O'Neill are a wash for each other, both a re spotty goal scorers although O'neill is a better assist man.
Hainsey and Hill, one is 23 and the other is 34...why do we trade a kid that is potentailly going to be playing for at least the next ten years and the other is almost out the door?
Cole and Hossa, what has Cole done since the playoffs of 2002? He has been a 40 points man and at almost 26(Nov.04) and a Height 6.01, Weight 185 he should be entering his prime and doing better, I haven't seen it yet.
Hossa is will only be 23 (Dec.04) and is Height 6.02, Weight 212. Both are similar size but I think hossa brings an all around more intelligent and hockey sense game than the game Cole brings. Sure he has been struggling, but the upside is too high on him or Hainsey to deal IMO.
The 3rd rounder is too much also, I think we get the wool pulled over our eyes in such a trade. We need Zed and by trading him and replacing him with O'neill it only brings in Cole really and Hill. Plus Hill is too old, we Q and he isn't getting any younger.
If good players like that on our end are involved in a deal I would want to see a greater return for us personally. I'm not saying we should get more in every deal, but we are helping the future of the Canes for one playoffs run in all reality.
Cole is the only attractive peice in the puzzle for his power game, other than that none of the other pieces make me interested.
