Flyers' roster moves (AHL callups: Nate Raduns and Boyd Kane )

Roster moves

Forwards Nate Raduns and Boyd Kane were recalled from the Phantoms in the morning and skated with the Flyers on Tuesday. Jared Ross and Steve Downie have been reassigned to the Flyers’ AHL affiliate.

“Raduns is a big guy, he skates well, and he handles pucks well in the middle of the ice,” said Stevens. “We just thought we’d give him a look on the fourth line. Same thing with Boyd Kane. He’s got a little bit more experience.

“We’ll wait and see how Nodl is. Hopefully he’s an option on Thursday.”

Nodl is day-to-day with a lower body injury and did not skate on Tuesday. Raduns has a goal and two assists for three points and 14 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Phantoms this season, while Kane has five goals and two assists for seven points

After next game they should call Downie back up. And the game after that, they should send him back down. And the game after that, they should call him back up. And the game after that, they should send him back down. And they should also be sure to mix in a few more Ross call-up/send downs as well. They should also continue rotating random Phantoms into the fourth line. It's definitely a recipe for success.

I'm not normally one to defend Downie too much...but the handling of him really has reached quite a comical height. Either keep him down there for an extended period of time...or keep him up here and let him play through the mistakes. I'm fine with sending him down, but for christsake...just do one or the other already. The situation really has become laughable.

I'm not sure, but whoever it is should be freakin' shot. Horrible doesn't even come close to describing these choices.

Wow. I was really hoping I'd never see Boyd Kane in a Flyers uniform again. He's a fine veteran for the Phantoms, but come on...

Terrible, terrible call-ups.

I don't mind WHO comes up, but it's pointless and maybe even detrimental to continue to call up different players, even for the 4th line. Pick someone, and let them play. I could have told you months ago that Jared Ross was a waste of time playing on our 4th line. Downie needs to play someplace and develop.

This is getting pretty aggravating.

This is really, really stupid. I'd be incredibly pissed off if I were Downie, which means that I would be tearing black holes in the space-time continuum.

Id rather callups like these that actually deserve 4th line time. Not players with Skill playing 4th line. But while Briere is out it kinda sucks for Carters RW

I'm sick of this. I hate to say this but for his own sake, I wish he'd get traded. Same goes for Kukkonen. Nothing these guys do will ever get them on the team.

The thing is I don't think the Flyers will get fair value for Downie at this point. I think if they trade him it will be another Patrick Sharp trade.

Why do people keep saying this? He's 21, not 25. He goes down to the AHL and puts up 6 points in 3 games, and scored nearly a ppg in 20 games there last season. Despite the Flyers best efforts to ruin his trade value and him as a prospect, Downie isn't hurting his value at all.

Truth...

i'd rather we put scrubs on our forth line, if downie is getting 18-20mins a night with intent to generate offense.

to be honest, i'm pining for jimmy dowd or sami kap right now. i'd love either as a checker for our forth line/13th forward.

People say it because maybe the Flyers handling of him has hurt his value. If the coach views him as a fourth line plug then how are they going to demand much for him?

I would think you would want to keep your captain with his team.

In the past the Flyers haven't had any problems calling up the captain of the Phantoms, Peter White comes to mind.
