Bouwmeester for Nash

I don't see why this hasn't been mentioned before. A trade send Bouwmeester to Columbus for Rick Nash. Now some fine tuning would be required since Nash is signed long-term and Bouw isn't, but the deal seems to make sense.

Columbus has a great young core of players that look to be poised and ready to step up and handle the load. Their defense however is suspect, and having less than great goaltending doesn't help their GA. Bouwmeester would immediately be their number 1 defenseman.

The Panthers are almost the opposite. Solid defense but nobody up front to score.

Both of these players are tremendous talents but haven't quite reached the level that everyone expects them too. Maybe a change of scenery for both guys could help them out.

Throw in the right to swap 2009 1st rounders and you've got yourself a deal!

It would gut Columbus' top 6 offense. First Zherdev, now Nash? I don't think they could afford it personally. I think Columbus should try to build their D, but not at the expense of Nash.

Keep in mind we're only 10 or so games in. Going by what we've seen, is a sample and skewed size. Do you really think they can rely on the following as part of their top offense?

Jason Chimera 9Pts
Huselius 10pts
Umberger 7Pts

And of course the youngins, which could continue to blossom or level out

Brassard 12Pts
Voracek 10 Pts

Personally, if i'm Columbus. I have Nash locked up, and am hoping he has a healthy season to finally reach the potential we've all been patiently waiting for.

As far as I can understand, Bouwmeester wants to get out of Florida so he can compete/join a contender. I really don't think he'd see Columbus as much of an upgrade.

This is all opinion, actually value both ways is pretty close when it comes down to it. The scenery and or logic behind the trade is all I question.

A lot of people are going to be disappointed when/if J-Bo is finally traded. He's not going to land Florida an equivalent player in return. Picks/prospects or some package of lesser players.

It's an interesting proposal, but Nash is the face of the franchise in Columbus (for whatever that's worth), whereas J-Bo is a malcontent in Florida. Expect a Jokinen style package for Jay.

true

an average second line forward + 2nd or 3rd pick and/or a prospect

at best...

Big No from Columbus. Somebody will have to overpay greatly to get Nash away from the Blue Jackets.

In a vacuum it's not a horrible proposal value-wise. However Nash's value to Columbus is inflated, and J-Bo's value to Florida is depressed given their current situations.

Nash played his best game of the season last night. He didn't score, but was a beast & played possessed.

Nash is going nowhere. He takes a lot of pressure off the kids. He doesn't score recently, but his value for the team is beyond any points.

$.02 from an unbiased Vancouver fan..

CBJ doesn't touch this deal with a 10 foot pole. Nash is one of the top 5 PF in the league and J-Bo is one of the most over rated "number 1" defensemen in the NHL. Hell, if I'm Howson, I'd be calling about ballard before J-bo.

Anyone that thinks J-bo is an elite NHL defenseman needs to go back and watch his play in the WC last spring. He was easily Canada's worst defenseman; outplayed by 35yo Steve Staios.

Unless one of Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss or David Booth is going to Columbus along with Jay Bouwmeester then Columbus says no.

In terms of what? Considering Bouw is quite a rarity when it comes to defense men.

erm.. a 30 goal scorer, with potential to net 45 or so (in Horton) and Weiss won't move, and an elite talent in Bouw for Rick Nash?

Why? Ridiculous.

In terms of Bouwmeester is not signed, Nash is the captain of the Blue Jackets and the face of their franchise.

Ok, I thought if it were comparing each other's talent.

Bouwmeester could just as easily be the face of the Panthers' franchise if he were signed. I do understand that Nash > Bouw in respect to contracts though.

I wish we could get Nash for Bo, but that just wouldn't happen. I don't watch too many Blue Jackets games but after the one last night, Nash is really an elite player.

Columbus isn't doing this... no way no how.

If you think you are gonna get a star player for a UFA like Bouwmeester, you should ask Atlanta what they got for Hossa... or what the flyers got for forsberg...

You are gonna get young players/prospects for Bouwmeester, the teams that want him, want him as a rental, and they aren't gonna give up part of the core to get him.

You have Nash on a long term deal, you don't trade him for a UFA to be.

If I was Columbus, I would do it if a 1st round pick added to it. Even then I don't know. Nash is great and Columbus has problems attracting free agents so this would really leave a void in this team.

I hope we can get the kind of return that Forsberg got for Philly.

You'll have to add Horton to that package.
