Does anyone know the history of this, why it was put there and what not, or a link telling me this information. I'm doing a paper on the history of MSG and i want to include a short paragrapgh about this.
I seem to remember the gold symbol being presented during the Rangers 75th anniversary season, during the home opener. They had a ceremony that centered around "Pride. Tradition. Honor." or something like that.
Since it was Messier's return to the Rangers in 2000-2001, they used the symbol as a way to honor the past and get ready for the future.
If there is someone that can do a better job verifying this, please do.
i submitted this question to the 'ask hockey night live' page on MSG. Hopefully Al and Stan "the dinosaur" Fischler will answer the question. Stan was probably there when the gold was dug out of the ground back in the rush of '49
