Don't know much about Eminger but Downie's career potential is serving 15-life for assault..

This is such a random trade. I thought the Flyers liked Downie? Furthermore, isn't it kind of knee-jerk to give up on Eminger and Carle after like 15 games?

Tampa Bay will promptly send Downie to the minors because they don't fight in the East.

Carle is not going to help Philly at all. I don't understand this trade.

that's actually pretty funny...

total upside is probably 20-25goals 40-50assists. I don't ever see him reaching it though. His skating sucks, he turns the puckover in embarrassing fashion, and he takes undisciplined penalties when he screws up.

You want to pick up a defenseman who will be extremely lucky to hit 20 points this year in a fantasy pool?

What made the Flyers give up on Downie? He's got 8pts in 4 Phantom games...

Was it the need to increase the talent on the D? Or does Downie have other problems? (other than the obvious )

Carle has upside, but it should be noted that him and Eminger have the same amount of points.

Not sure how adding Carle's salary affects the Shanny talks. He might sign for < 1mil.

Holmgren is a really good GM. This has all the makings of the Coburn trade.

Weird trade for Philly. They don't really seem to need what Matt Carle might be able to bring if he stops playing poorly.

Very odd trade for Philly.

Carle has been brutal (and brutally overpaid) since his quick start to his rookie season. Has been crap at both ends of the rink for the most part. Eminger makes a ton less money and isn't really much of a downgrade. So to me it's almost like they've just given Downie away. And as much as I don't like Downie as a person, he's going to be a pretty good NHL forward.

Every guy involved has only played a handful of games for their team. Two of the three were just very recently acquired. None of the three have reached their potential or are proven in any way. If any poster here had proposed this he'd have been flamed to death and the thread would've been locked.

Nice to see the Bolts building up their collection of former Capitals. Eminger will feel right at home with Pettinger, Kolzig, and (eventually) Halpern.

So the only parts left of the Boyle deal is Wishart and a 4th. If you use the parts of the Boyle deal:

Traded:
Boyle
Lukowich
Kuba
SJ 1st
Carle
Picard
3rd rounder

Recieved:
Meszaros
Wishart
4th rounder
4th rounder
Downie
Eminger

Have you seen Tampa? that entire team is terrible outside of Smith and Lecavalier. Melrose is a horrible coach and as for the trade itself, i think Carle is more salvageable than Eminger. As for Downie, i guess that's all Tampa really wanted out of the deal.
