[PHI/TB] Flyers deal Downie and Eminger for Matt Carle
Carle has been worse the last two years than Coburn has been his entire career.
I have to think that Carle scored a lot of those points playing with Thornton, because he's a ****ing horrible player besides that year.

What made the Flyers give up on Downie? He's got 8pts in 4 Phantom games...
Was it the need to increase the talent on the D? Or does Downie have other problems? (other than the obvious )
Carle has upside, but it should be noted that him and Eminger have the same amount of points.
Not sure how adding Carle's salary affects the Shanny talks. He might sign for < 1mil.
Downie has done the best he can to shed the label he's gotten, I've been his biggest critic, but I've acknowledged his effort.
Eminger has been terrible for us. I'm more concerned about losing Downie than Eminger. I can sit on it and see if Carle can make it work here, but I fail to see how this trade addresses our needs.
Have you seen Tampa? that entire team is terrible outside of Smith and Lecavalier. Melrose is a horrible coach and as for the trade itself, i think Carle is more salvageable than Eminger. As for Downie, i guess that's all Tampa really wanted out of the deal.
Carle and Eminger are a wash. They both suck and both will never be anything great.
This is basically just Philly giving away Downie for nothing and adding salary. Dumbass trade by Philly.
And yes. I've seen Tampa. Carle was part of the problem more than any form of a solution.
I don't like this deal at all for the Flyers. The author made it a point that they are addressing their blue line but they actually just made a lateral move in defensemen rather than adding depth.
In my opinion, Eminger has been better overall than Carle. Eminger has been improving slightly this season and at least showing consistency in his role as a 3rd pairing blue liner. Matt Carle has been getting his ice time cut drastically lately but he does have more potential. Maybe a better core of defensemen around Carle will make him a better player but only if he's playing at the 2nd pair. If he's on the 3rd pairing, he's not going to get better and it's a losing deal.
i actually think this is a good deal for Philly. Carle had a great rookie season and is still very young, sure he wasn't great last season but give him time and he'll develop into one of the premier offensive d-men in the league by the time he's in his prime.
As a diehard Lightning fan who has been more than supportive of the new Lightning management, they really made a stupid ****ing move this time. I absolutely hated Steve Downie in limited action with Philly, hes a cheap shot player and I don't want that type with Tampa. Carle should have been giving more time to show what he can turn into here. On the surface, I hate this trade. It does save over 1.2 million in cap space, but who cares.
You can't pick out one team from Tampa and call them bad ahaha, the whole team isn't great. He's managed a +1 in 12 GP this year, he can be a pivotal member of the Flyers lineup. He'll suit up tomorrow.
this doesn't make any friggin sense. when jones and parent are back someone will have to go, and if it's sbisa, which i figure as most likely, carle won't be enough of an upgrade to offset losing a year off his contract.
not to mention steve downie is flyer hockey. i can't believe this. this feels like one of those deals the flyers make that bites them in the ass in a couple years. i don't wanna play against steve downie. carle won't solve any problems we're having on the blueline.
and for those of you who are already deeming this Coburn round II don't be so confident. the odds of something that ridiculous happening again are slim...not to mention downie (or even eminger, or both of them combined) isn't an aging zhitnik. this isn't even close to the coburn deal.
Carle is not going to help Philly at all. I don't understand this trade.
I don't drink the Downie kool-aid, i think he has the Avery effect where he can be a solid agitator but he will find a way to hurt his team when his team really needs him to not do anything to get the other team going.
As for Eminger, the guy that the Caps benched for more than half the season last year? I think Carle would have a better chance of rebounding on the Flyers than Eminger rebounding on the Lightning.
People see a win because it's 2 for 1. I don't. I think Carle is having a bad start, where as Eminger had a rough year last year and is having a bad start this year as well. Only 1yr separates each player for age, but Eminger has more experience with 60+ more games.
Like someone said, it has the makings of a Coburn like turn around for Carle.
He's just a mediocre player. I'm just shocked that Philly dumped an equal player of Carle in Eminger AND Downie to pick him up. Just a dumb-ass move. I could care less about Carle. Just makes me glad that Philly made this retarded move.
