League scheduling

Does anyone else think this is an issue? Some people may consider it a good thing, some a bad thing...but I just want to see what people think.

Each year the Rangers seem to play more games than other teams during the season. (Of course we all play 82, but the Rangers always seem to be ahead in GP) Right now, we have 17 games played while everyone else has 13-14. Last year and the year before was similar. November our schedule is pretty cramped too, as is the following months..so the way I see it we may be in first place, but all the other teams have 3-6 games in hand?! This doesnt seem fair to me, and I think the NHL should fix this.

Also, I've noticed this trend for the past few years so its not just this season.

Circus and Knickerbockers are the cause.

Oh, I didnt know there was a particular reason. How do you guys know that? Dont the Knicks play at the same time of year though? We dont have to have all our games squished at the beginning of the year

The circus is the real annoying part, cause its tehre for like 3 weeks. So neither the Knicks or Rangers can play their.

But why cant the Rangers just go on the road for that time? I still dont buy what you guys are saying...the League doesnt have to condense the Rangers overall schedule..(maybe thier home schedule though)

There are games scheduled when the circus is there--anyone who's been to a game can tell as they go up the escalaters (you can smell the animals). There was a time when the circus had exclusive rights to the Garden, but that ended when the Garden moved to its present location.

The teams have significant imput on the scheduling and the Rangers have always seemed to prefer to have an easier schedule leading up to the playoffs.

Plus there's holiday college basketball tourneys, St John's, and the Big East tourney in March.

More time off late in the season is preferable, especially if you get off to a good start. They are well-positioned this year.

The Garden's schedule is much more packed in December-February/March, so they try to squeeze more games out early in the season so they can schedule the Garden easier.

The building hosts like 300+ events a year, it's pretty ridiculous.

It's being compounded this year 'cause the two games we had in Europe against the Lightning.

But it is sort of interesting to know the Garden's schedule has an impact on the Rangers early season games.

I don't see how it's any worse than the travel that West Coast teams have to deal with, particularly when they head out on those extended road trips.

Yeah I am sure Naslund is upset about being within a 1 hour flight/drive to 9 opponents.

Every team has issues - Edmonton is currently on a 14 day road trip.

It's probably closer to 500 events a year--there are plenty of days when two events take place.
