Horton for Havlat

Says he's "sure this wouldn't be a straight up deal."

I'd be interested in this, however, how's Havlat been injury-wise? I haven't paid much attention to him since before last season.

Strikes me as odd that he chose to grab Horton and put him into one of his "rumors." Don't remember hearing about him doing that before.

That would be a terrible deal for Florida.

So it has legs at least.

Martin wasn't a huge fan of Havlat when he was in Ottawa. I ca't see him giving up a solid asset like Horton for Havlat.

Ah, everyone loves to remember the Luongo trade, even though that guy's not here anymore.

If Havlat stayed healthy it would be a win for Florida.

I can't either, but I was interested in the "not straight up" part.

Eklund posted about XX Bouwmeester deals...I wonder, why Flodida should deal away Bouwmeester because of the contract situation and deal for Havlat, who is basically in the same contract situation.

I don't read it, someone else found this one. As I said, if this deal were to happen, what would make it work?

How's it not clear at this point what everyone thinks of Eklund?

It wouldn't work, ever.

Why would Horton and Havlat ever be in the same deal unless Toews was involved also?

Because...Horton's not on Toews level. He's better than he's playing, a lot better, but he's not Toews.

If they include Sharp or Seabrook, then it could "work."

I don't think, expect, or want this to happen, but Martin's called out his vets and based on his play, Horton's one of them. Just struck me as odd that Ek would pick up on Horton.

It's easy to see why he calls it "Five Trade Rumors I Haven't Seen Elsewhere." Because they're so %#@%*#! stupid nobody else would have made them up.

Horton could be a 40 goal player if he played with someone half decent.

If the opinion in Florida is that Havlat and Seabrook for Horton is good deal, I hope Cliff Fletcher takes advantage of that.

He's playing with Stillman and is still not playing with the drive and potential that he could. As I said, I'd rather keep Horton, but I was also thinking along the lines of if we lose Bouw, too, picking up a Seabrook or Barker would soften the blow a bit.

Didn't say a "good deal," but as everyone loves to say around here, good deals don't happen anymore. I think Havlat would look good with Weiss and Booth.

Personally, I'm frustrated with Horton, but I'd obviously rather that he stay. I'd rather Bouw stay and the Panthers start taking to DeBoer's system and play 100% every game. Every time they've done that this season, they've won.

I'm sure he would for the 5 games he plays with them before the wind blows and he tweaks his groin. But the fact that he's making 6.5 million, and would bolt for free agency to the highest bidder in the summer should make up for it.

I don't really see the point putting Keith and Jay-Bo into the deal. I'd do Havlat + Byfuglien for Horton, maybe add one of Chicago's hoard of 2nd rounders as well if need be.

Its his shoulder that is completely messed up...

Gaborik has the wonky groin.

He had his shoulder surgery last year (which he should have had two seasons ago but didn't) and it has so far not given him any trouble. Havlat will likely play more games for CHI this year than he ever has, baring a trade like this.

I thought Nasty Nate was already locked up long term and all...he's part of the "solution" so to speak there...I can't imagine dealing him for a chance that Havlat stays healthy, and re-signs...Eklund would have much more credibility if he just thought about some of these, like a last year, when Bryzgalov was plucked off waivers by Phoenix, he had him getting dealt to other teams with a series of (e3) and (e=mc˛) and all that, but in reality, he would have to be offered at waiver price to every team that put in an unsuccessful claim for him (which in all likelihood, was at least a handful of teams)...it's things like that and like this, that cause people on the fence about him to break the way of the masses...

I mean, I know it's a business that he's running...but still...if I could improve my batting average by taking one extra practice swing, I'd probably do it...

Havlat for Horton would be a terrible move for the Panthers unless there was something else of real value in the deal. I really can't see Florida making this type of trade. They need to bring scorers in, losing Horton makes is a lateral move at best.

I would say he's had his fair share of groin problems as wel. yes, the shoulder is the big one, but I wasnt offbase in saying he has groin problems.

I'd take a wait and see approach to that.... he hasn't even made it through a quarter of the season yet; and this isn't his first shoulder surgery. I for one am not yet convinced, and i doubt most GMs around the legue are too.

Most of those are 2001-2004.
So post lockout 1/8th of the total time he's missed has been due to the groin instead of the shoulder?? Its a concern, but certainly not near as big as the shoulder.

Plus we all know NHL teams are 100% truthful in their injury reports.... not that I'm saying these day to day reports are false... but we need to look at them with a grain of salt too.
---------

Regardless; if I'm florida, there is no way, no how i do this deal with Havlat as the centrepiece of what I'm getting back. If Chicago wants to through in another major piece then maybe... but if havlat is the centrepiece of the chicago offer, then I'm saying Hell No.

Florida only does this is Havlat is packaged with someone like Toews or Seabrook. Awful trade for the Panthers if those two are the centerpieces.
