Mike Comrie

If I were a betting man I'd say this is Comrie's last year as an Islander. He does have skill but he's soft and doesn't have the talent around him here to put up points. Could be valuable to a team in need of a 2nd line center at the deadline. He is a UFA to be so his value probably won't be too high, so what would he most likely return in a trade?

lots of teams will be looking for that 2nd line "soft center" who needs to be surrounded by talent to succeed at the dealine....

I'd say his value would be pretty high- He's dating Hilary Duff and isn't his Dad a billionaire? As for hockey....not a lot.

From the Coyotes, I'd offer Alexei Kaigorodov, if we still own his rights. If not, than I offer Alexander Nikulin.

Well put!

In all honesty though, he did great for the Sens when he joined the team in January. Maybe the situation was ideal for him, but I can still see him as helping out a playoff team. Everytime he skated with the puck, he always reminded me of a mini-lefthanded-Jason Spezza (obviously with less production though). Plus, he got a little grittier in the playoffs when he was part of the cup-run.

I think he'd have a lot to offer a playoff team (besides Hillary Duff jokes).

As an Oilers fan, he's pretty close to the thing we need- a 30-goal second-line center. However, that's obviously not likely to happen.

Still, though, I'd offer Roloson (must for salary) + a decent prospect.

Nilsson-Comrie-Gagner might actually be a pretty good line.

No serious contender could afford to play Comrie at center. Contenders demand two-way play and defensive awareness of their pivots; Comrie does not offer that.

He was a valuable second-line LW for a Cup Finalist Sens team in '07 and that is exactly where he slots in.

I'm Comrie's biggest supporter. I really like the guy. I was furious when Phoenix traded him. Then again, I hated the Saprykin deal, too. I was just kidding about bringing Comrie back, though. We have no room for him. At this point, I prefer the more versatile, cheaper Reinprecht.

I agree about the LW thing. I've always felt he'd make a better LWer than a center. He's too small and one-dimmensional to play center. He's not exactly lights out in the face-off circle, either. As a winger, though, he makes a ton of sense. He's gritty and goes to the net, and can score goals as well as pass the puck quite well. He's paid a little too well for what he'd bring as a winger, though. A second line left wing like Comrie shouldn't be paid four million a year.

True.

As I've always said hockey norms regarding two-way play and the like go out the window when speaking about #99 and #66 only. Their play so exceeded that of "normal" players that it transcended the basic way the game must be played. That is to say, every second either was ever on the ice, the game revolved around their presence, even if they did not do anything on the particular shift.

I hope he goes back to Ottawa, he was a great fit there (although I don't think Murray liked him very much...he was playing on the 3rd and 4th lines for the first two months after being traded, when Murray was the coach).

Good "alternative" to Sundin (btw, Sundin isn't happening).
