I could definitely see them exposing Ryder and protecting either Nokelainen or Axe.
Wheeler and Lucic are exempt, so Axelsson and Nokelainen can be protected. Unfortunately, Matt Lashoff isn't. Does one of the other defence go so he can be protected?
Also, add Reich, St.Pierre, Schaefer, and Boychuk to the unprotected list.

Exempt:
Pavelec, Bogosian, Oystrick, Valabik, Sterling (Not sure if he qualifies to be exempt)
Those three have two years pro. Oystrick or Valabik can be protected (empty defence spot) but Sterling would need to replace someone if you want to keep him.

I think both Ericisson and Howard would be exempt and that means Meech could be protected. Keep Draper over Sammy, but other than that, pretty much how I'd go.
Ericsson and Howard have 2 and 3 years pro respectively and are not exempt.
I also had Draper over Samuelsson, but production plus Babcock crush on Sammy influenced my choice. Pretty sad to leave the entire grind line unprotected, but they are past their prime.
EDIT: danishh did Dallas at post #66. Only thing missed about that was Parrish. Does he take the 9 forward spot over Crombeen?

to others: please make sure you are doing this right. Look for a full roster that shows everyone under contract (good starting point, i use nhlscap.com) and then evaluate who is exempt. You are exempt for your first 2 years in the pros. Ex: Bryan Little (ATL) IS exempt because this is his second pro season. The playoffs he played in chicago (AHL, 06-07) do not count towards that total. Once you have done your exemptions correctly, its just a matter of making the right decisions for protection. Do not forget to protect prospects who have spent 2+ seasons in the minors! (or dont forget to add them to your unprotected list)
