Why do we draft a center in a defense heavy draft and go to draft a d-man in an offense heavy draft? It don't make sense. Another second round d-man, yes please. I want one of the many talented forwards in the upcoming draft class.
You're from White Rock (as am I).. so you're a Canucks fan, presumably... Why would the Canucks do that?
I think Teubert is exactly the type of right side defenseman the Canucks need to make up for the loss of Bourdon and then some. A talented, junk yard dog besides being a local kid.
I've also been doing some math and I don't think we are going to be able to afford the Sedins next season. I'm guessing they are going to command between $4.5 & $5 mil each. Lets say it's the mid point of $4.75. That equals an additional $1.175 mil each or $2.35 mil total. Edler just got a new contract with a $2.7 mil per year raise. That is now $5.05 mil in salary increase and that is just the start.
Ohlund is also a UFA just entering his prime. Figure at least an extra $1 mil per year and he'd still be a bargain at $4.5 mil/yr. So now we are at an extra $6.05 mil.
Burrows has been earning a paltry $0.483 mil/yr. Now as a UFA I can't see him getting less than $2.0 mil to $2.5 mil/yr so if we split that in the middle, there is another $1.767 mil. Davison, Pyatt, Sanford and Ouelett are also all UFA's. I doubt they will earn much more than what they are earning now, but let's budget at least $0.250 mil salary increase between the 4 of them. That means for UFA's alone, we will have a salary increase of at least over $8 million dollars in a season that is predicted not to have an increase in the salary cap and possibly a decrease.
Now we look at RFA's at the end of this season. If you want to keep the best you have to tie them up now or expect an offer sheet. RFA's are Wellwood, Bernier, Hansen and O'Brien. Personally I don't want to see any of those four lost. Wellwood I can see being offered $2.0 mil/yr, Bernier $3.0 mi/yr, Hansen $1.75 mil/yr & O'Brien $1.25 mil/yr for a total additional salary increase of $3.044 mil/yr extra for RFA's.
Total expected salary increase $11.111 mil/yr. As our current salary budget is already at $47,207 mil/yr, adding another $11,111 mil/yr puts us way over the expected cap.
Definately LA is being offered the better deal. Johnson is the best shot blocking forward in the league and the twins would be awesome as a second line for LA with Moller on their wing. Can you imagine a top six of
Frolov - Koitar - Brown
Daniel S - Henrik S - Moller
Equally O'Sullivan and Stoll, though maybe not as skilled as the twins, are no slouches in their own right. It would also give the Canucks a $3.625 mil/yr salary dump and would restore the Canuck's right side - left side defensive core.
keep your Sedins... we don't want them.
They asking for 1st line franchiser money and playing like 2nd liner.
The Kings would never agree with that.
The only numbers that have been thrown out there are that they were seeking $4.5M-$4.75M per. Hardly "franchiser" money. I also don't know many 2nd liners that score at just under a PPG pace. They'd be 1-2 in scoring for your team.
