Trade deadline predictions for the Flyers

What do you think?

I think Clarke will be looking at three holes he might fill.

1. Defensmen - He will address this, and imo with a big time trade.

2. Center - If the news on Primeau and Roenick is bad around the time of the deadline, a center will be added. It looks more likely that Roenick will be back, but when? If Primeau is still has head problems in two weeks, it will be obvious his season is in jeopordy. If that were the case, you'd have to trade for a center

3. Pest - I wouldn't be shocked to see a pest added to play on the fourth line.

My predictions:

Roenick returns with one week left to the regular season.
Primeau does not return, as it comes out eventually he actually has post consussion syndrome.

Clarke trades Patrick Sharp, Denis Seideberg, and a mid round pick to Washington for Brendan Witt.

Clarke trades a third round pick to Phoenix for Chris Gratton.

New and improved lineup:

Gagne - Roenick - Recchi
LeClair - Zhamnov - Amonte
Kapanen - Handzus - Radivojevic
Brashear - Gratton - Lapointe

Desjardins - Markov
Johnsson - Witt
Ragnarsson - Pitkanen

Burke
Esche

Sharp, Seids and a mid pick for Witt?? It seems a bit lopsided to me.
I really don't like to sacrifice the youth like that. We don't know if Carter or Richards will be ready to compete for a spot next year. And if Seids is traded, we haven't got a young d-man left.

I would have liked to see Clarke go after LA's Sean Avery when he was in the doghouse earlier in the season........and I hate to say it, but if Matthew Barnaby could be had cheap, I wouldn't mind seeing him here. (Oh my God, did I really say that?!?!)

I would love to see Witt in orange and black.

Yikes, another "Back to the Future" move.......no thanks. I don't want to see Gratton come back, even for just a pick.

way too much to give up for Witt IMO. A 4-5 defenseman wouldn't be too bad, but we don't need to break the bankbook and if we get Desjardins back, that means that Therien will be a scratch.

Prims will definitely be back IMO, not so sure about JR. But Zhamnov has been good here.....

If Primeau is out though, Clarke needs to make a move for a defensive center. We have Lapointe, but he's just......Lapointe.

Can't give up Seidenberg, but sad to give up Sharp.

How about a draft pick for Ron Francis. Defensively responsible and can still put up some numbers. He'll only get traded if he wants to but who wants to finish their career in Carolina.

Korovkin, Ruggeri, Meyer (allready been called up), Timonen, Picard, Mormina.

They have plenty of prospects. Don't count them out just because forward prospects get higher rankings.

If the Flyers are looking for a Center and Defenseman at the deadline here are a couple of one stop shopping idea.

1) Witt and Nylander. Witt is left handed & Nylander is more of a soft playmaking center, but they are names that could be had. 2) Gratton & Ference. Ference is a right handed hard hitter with a nasty side to him & Gratton has the size. Maybe he can excel in a roll with lower offensive expectations? Philadelphia Coyotes? 3). Mirnov & Holik. I got to thinking that this situation might be the perfect time for the Flyers to take a risk on underachieving but talented players that if when they get into Hitch’s system and a play-off race might produce up to their talent. Underachieving but talent, hum…Of course Rangers come to mind. Mirnov is big, talented and right handed and Holik is both a pest and a big, fantastic defensive center. Big risk, but possible big reward.

I am ALL for a Holik deal. That is exactly the kind of attitude this team needs.

But I'm not for an 8 million dollar contract. NY would have to eat A LOT of salary.

Unfortunately the contract is a big reason why he would be available. I think it is also worse, 9 million a year for 3 more years.

don't think Meyer will be anything more than a career AHLer, they say Seidenberg is too small, but Meyer is 20lbs smaller than Dennis. Sure he can skate like the wind, but he'll get killed in the corners
And from the sounds of it, Timonen isn't making progress over seas.
So hands of Seidenberg. And Sharp as well. They are our only young prospects with NHL experiance.

I know them but no one amongst these guys is ready to go, on a consistent basis, with the big club next year.

How about Steve Staios as a possible cheap pick-up?

I agree with your view of Meyer but the Flyers don't call up players just for the hell of it. They obviously see something in his game so you have to place him on the list.

Second, while I agree that Timonen and the last three names are longer waits this is not a team that needs prospects to step in. It is the cheapest way to build a team but the Flyers can fill any holes through free agency. Plus, if a strike kills off next season then a Ruggeri or Korovkin just might be ready.

I wouldn't want to see Seidenberg just given away but, I wouldn't shed any tears if Witt was coming in return.

Why? You want a 5 million dollar 4th liner? We had Chris Gratton once there is no way Clarke brings him back. Gratton does nothing for this team that Claude Lapointe can't do. Gratton has been horrid since he got traded to Phoenix, espically this season.

Meyer is REALLY small - even in the AHL he was getting killed on the walls/corners.
Rosario and Korokovin are good (not great) prospects but have possiblities and we will likely see both in the AHL next year.
Timonen is getting older and his stats are worse - not an NHL prospect really. Mormina is fringe prospect at best - I asked Al Alven the same question because his size and icetime are impressive but he is in a poor conference. Given his size would not give up on him though.

First off, Keith Primeau will be back, Jeremy Roenick might return in the playoffs.

I think the major trades are over for the Flyers. We're going to get Lyle Odelin. And he is a great pickup assuming we get our other guys back healthy

Why a defensemen?

Markov-Desjardins
Ragnarsson-Pitkanen
Timmander-Johnsson

Therien

Timmander has shown no reason why he shouldn't be playing for this team.

I also think Preems is gonna be back before playoffs start but im not too shore about JR.

Hopefully he'll come back to as the final piece in Round 3 to complete our Cup Run

Because, as talented as all 6 of those defensemen are... NONE OF THEM CLEAR THE PORCH!!! (yelling at them) They need someone who can do that, help out on the PK, clear out the slot, etc etc.

That's why. If someone get's injured, Therien will play. And none of us want that to happen.
