As far as the board goes, I gotta give a thank you to Jules. She may not be overseas, but she still serves us. And also to Valhoun. Hope he's safe, wherever he is.

Ditto that. He got my cell number off of facebook, and used to send me drunk texts all the time. I don't even get them anymore....... Hopefully he didn't get caught up in a hooker hunt gone awry.

I didn't realize Jules was in the service. I knew Val was, and for what it's worth...I saw him lurking a few nights back.

Thank you both.

Jules isn't in the service. She's an officer though, so I figured she still techincally serves us.

Men, worship me as a god. Women, email me pictures of your breasts. It's Veteran's Day, dammit.

We are actually getting to leave Camp Shelby for the day but we can't do anything of interest like drink. Just go to a decent restaurant and the movies. My unit is about to head to Ft. Polk for JRTC which should last just shy of 40 days. I have leave from December 23rd to January 2nd and will be heading overseas shortly thereafter.

I am awesome. John Stevens sucks.

That is all.

Val, nice to see you around! Thanks for checking in... please do as often as you can. And stay safe. We need lunatics around here!

Great thread, Opus.

This board needs more Valhoun, especially since this season is beginning to resemble '06-'07 more than '07-'08.

Nice thread Opus.

A Canadian slant, but the message is the same.

I am actually a 68W Combat Medic in the United States ARMY.
I just want to thank you all for caring, no matter who the President is or who is determining where we are in the world.
Im lucky enough to be home and will be for a while.
My buddies at the 1/111th INF are in Southern Mississippi training to go to Iraq in February.
Thank you for all your support.

It had to be done, today is a very special day...and I don't think we can ever give enough thanks...past, present and future.

While I'm not American, I want to also thank you for your commitment and dedication.

VALHOUN!!!!!!!!! YES!!!

Finally we see you again. Right on time, a few hours after I mentioned how I missed seeing you around. Sweet.

Stay safe man. You better bring back some stories for around the campfire before we resume our hooker hunting activities.

An Irish Airman foresees his Death

I know that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate
Those that I guard I do not love;

My country is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan’s poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.

Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public man, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;

I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

-- W.B. Yeats, 1919

I have never been so honored to have my birthday on Nov 11th because of all the great people who have stood up and fought for our country. Good luck to all those who serve us day in and day out and come home safely.

No, thank Jeebus. They are a bit ate up. I'm with the Cav, C Troop 2/104th. The infantry guys are alright for the most part but they haven't exactly blazed through the field exercises with flying colors. They also dicked up the motor pool pretty bad and turned it into damn near a free for all. However, my squadron has little to no real interaction with the infantry units in the brigade. Even at JRTC the Cav will be at a totally different section the majority of the time.

One last item... Bob McKenzie from TSN wrote a wonderful blog today about the Highway of Heroes in Ontario.

http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/bob_mckenzie...s-Bob_McKenzie

Quote:
It is called Remembrance Day and we are supposed to take two minutes of solemn reflection at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, but the truth is there have been far too many occasions we need to remember from the days, weeks and months that have just now passed us by.
Quote:
The Highway of Heroes is what Highway 401 between CFB Trenton and Toronto is called because it is the path our fallen soldiers take when they arrive home. The bodies are repatriated at CFB Trenton and the motorcade - the black hearse containing the soldier's casket with the black limousines carrying the family of the fallen soldier - then speeds along the 401 to the Coroner's office in downtown Toronto for the official autopsy.

Hey there, stranger, you've been missed around these parts, but I knew you were doing the most important job on Earth. I'm glad that you are doing well.

I thank you and all your fellow comrades for what you do for us each and every day. It takes a very special person to serve and I am behind you 100%. As always, all my best. God Speed.

My support is the least I can do--but at the same time, basically all I can do. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for us. As I said to Valhoun, I truly believe that your job is the most important on Earth.

Opus, great thread. And thanks to all the servicemen from Canada and elsewhere who have worked hand in hand with those from America throughout the years.
