Game 16: Maple Leafs @ Flames - 7:30pm MT - SNET-W (HD) & the Fan 960
(6-5-4, 16 PTS)
(8-7-1, 17 PTS)
The Flames got some good news this morning. While there's some nasty discolouration and puffing, the swelling in defenceman Dion Phaneuf's eye has subsided enough that he'll play in tonight's contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Phaneuf's availability had been in doubt because of a Martin Havlat stick to the eye Sunday in Chicago. Captain Jarome Iginla, who has been one of many Flames suffering from the flu, is taking part in this morning's pre-game skate and should also dress.
On the flip side, Phaneuf's blue-line partner Jim Vandermeer is out with a lower-body injury, either a foot or an ankle. Also, forward Michael Cammalleri, another suffering from the flu, is not skating and will likely be a game-time decision. More later.
Certainly sounds like an uphill battle tonight and Thursday. At least one of Boyd/Moss/Borque will get a lot of icetime and will have to step it up huge. Better for the flu to hit now than later in the season though.
I think if we work the puck down low we can win....
3-2 Flames win
Goals by Boyd Borque Iggy
Go Flames Go
Yeah from the three "official" blogs (Mahr, Kerr and the Flames blog at the Herald) all of them stated that Dion's eye has opened and he can see well again and is expected to skate, which I agree is very very good news. I still think that Havlat should have gotten a 10 minute misconduct, simply for having his stick up that high as Dion came in at him. Nothing intended I am sure, but nonetheless when your stick gets caught in a helmet? Yeah not cool.
