The Flames got some good news this morning. While there's some nasty discolouration and puffing, the swelling in defenceman Dion Phaneuf's eye has subsided enough that he'll play in tonight's contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Phaneuf's availability had been in doubt because of a Martin Havlat stick to the eye Sunday in Chicago. Captain Jarome Iginla, who has been one of many Flames suffering from the flu, is taking part in this morning's pre-game skate and should also dress.

On the flip side, Phaneuf's blue-line partner Jim Vandermeer is out with a lower-body injury, either a foot or an ankle. Also, forward Michael Cammalleri, another suffering from the flu, is not skating and will likely be a game-time decision. More later.

I will post any further updates I come across.

Here's hoping the home team can get past their struggles tonight and get a much needed win.

Go Flames!

No news on Lombardi still? Iginla/Bertuzzi will have to step it up if we're gonna win this.

Iggy isn't even 100% from the Flu although he was at practice this morning (Keenan sent him home yesterday). We all know he'll try he hardest but.....this could get ugly.

Sounds like Cammalleri is out tonight. Vandy is also obviously out with the broken ankle. Need some guys to step up tonight. Really unfortunate the flu bug has hit this team so hard.

Certainly sounds like an uphill battle tonight and Thursday. At least one of Boyd/Moss/Borque will get a lot of icetime and will have to step it up huge. Better for the flu to hit now than later in the season though.

I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys actually, we have had plenty of bad games in your barn and want to see how we hold up.

Very good luck tonight

HA!

Big game tonight with half our line-up in the crapper one way or another.

Finally, no Conroy on the top line

I'm going to say 3 - 1 Flames.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Edit: Dare I say the more interesting matchup is Wilson vs. Franklin, this will be their first meeting since the playoffs

Flames lose 4-3 in OT. Grabovski scores a PP winner in OT

Yeah from the three "official" blogs (Mahr, Kerr and the Flames blog at the Herald) all of them stated that Dion's eye has opened and he can see well again and is expected to skate, which I agree is very very good news. I still think that Havlat should have gotten a 10 minute misconduct, simply for having his stick up that high as Dion came in at him. Nothing intended I am sure, but nonetheless when your stick gets caught in a helmet? Yeah not cool.

That was also my first thought. Sounded as if the home team scored.

I'd be more concerned about the go Leafs go chant! It barely gets that loud at the ACC
