Much better effort so far by the flames. Really liking what I've seen so far. Skating a lot better and I really like the lines Keenan has put together. All 4 lines have had good control and got some chances. Looking good boys! Let's keep it up.
Now THAT'S how I want to see the Flames playing!! Great forecheck, solid defensive zone coverage and pressing the attack in the opposition zone. I was also very happy with the energy level presented by the Flames. They had some serious jump that period.
The PK unit was solid again, and the only fault I could see was the one miscue in which Sarich failed to clear the puck and it ended up in the back of the Flames net. I also blame Miikka for that as I think he should have had that one. Tho I won't holler too loudly at Kipper, as his play was solid for the lion's share of that period.
MUCH improved powerplay too! Solid puck possession, clean crisp passing, and shots actually ON NET!! Amazing how when you put the puck on net and don't miss how things happen eh? I don't mean to belabour the point, but again when you carry the puck in on the PP the odds of getting shots in increase exponentially.
I too miss the Beazz but from what I heard on the radio he's got the flu and is busy ... yawing in 3-D at home
Like the energy and great play continues rather than falling off. Liking Boyd getting a solid first line chance and sure Keenan is noticing him esoecially as he scored one so far. Glad to see Boyd already have 5 goals... hoping he can get at least 20.
More of the same from our heroes. Solid forecheck, great defensive zone coverage and smart play. The few times when the defense broke down Miikka was there to save the day, playing like Miikka can. I'd also like to [point out Bertuzzi's amazing play. He was a dominant force on ice, and you always knew he was there every time he stepped on the ice.
The offensive zone pressure again that period was joyous. My only one beef in that was Sarich. He played great for most of the first two periods, but in a space of 30 seconds made two very silly plays that caused turnovers. Nothing serious developed, and Cory himself saved the second gaffe. And Dion!! Nice to see that you can actually see still, great goal buddy!
It was great to see the Flames play that whole period out of the sin bin. Smart disciplined play seemed to be the order of the day there. Tho I do wonder why Jeff Finger wasn't nailed with a hooking call on that Iggy break away...
One last thing, the faceoffs. Amazing!! Keep winning over 80% of the face offs and good things will continue to happen.
