wait, guys, I'm really confused. Does Messier have to go through the draft? If not, how come?

If it were Messier, the timing seems strange. Wouldn't the time to sign him be after the Traverse City tourney if they were really interested?

Can anyone comment on Messier's play with the Checkers? Has it been good enough to warrant a contract now as opposed to then?

Could this be a situation where the Rangers/Wolfpack want to have him a reserve player to call up now that Urquhart is already in Hartford?

Jess Rubenstein would not make such a big deal about this and include the title "He is coming" if it was for Lyon Messier. He knows his prospects very well and it just wouldn't make sense.

Unless it's his intention to just cause a stir.....

It is not very often when we get excited about adding another prospect but this one is special as if there was anyone who Ranger fans will adopt instantly it will be this young man.
this tells me all I need to know... its Lyon Messier

That was my take as well. That line about instantly adopting him suggests it has to be someone with ties to the Rangers "family".

It is 100% Messier. And the author of the article isn't a jackass.

That the author isn't a jackass? It's just my opinion.

The fact that it's Messier? It's so completely obvious from the article. It's the first thing I thought of. There is absolutely no other possibility. None at all. I'll gladly take bets.

What's the feel good angle, anyway?

The kid sucks so much and is so terrible to get cut by 2 CHL teams and somehow finagles a NHL deal based solely off of his name?

Yeah, I think everyone here thinks it's Lyon too, but some were hoping for Bobby Ryan, or someone else. I agree it is blatantly obvious that it's Messier though.

If it does turn out to be Messier, it really isn't a big deal. I doubt he'd ever make the Rangers anyway.

Sorry, if you are right the author is a jackass. Messier isn't likely an NHL talent from what (admittedly little) I've read. To say how happy everyone will be if it's him is just plain silly.

agreed, if it is messier, to me that is nothing to get excited over....the kid plays with grit and is a hard worker but he doesnt have the talent of an NHL defenseman....

I'm amazed at how ridiculously people are viewing this.

The article doesn't say "Get excited Rangers fans". It doesn't say "the future of the franchise has come". It doesn't say "Rangers fans will crap their pants with joy". It just says all Rangers fans will be happy. Stop thinking about the NHL roster and just think about this: if this thread had never been posted and tomorrow you found out the Rangers signed Messier's son you'd probably be like "oh, cool... Messier's son". I think that's all it meant.

I'm sorry and I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, but I too would take bets on it being Messier. I don't see it being anyone else, the way it's written.

And if it is in fact Messier's son... i don't see how anyone would care much for it.

He has less then no shot at ever playing in the NHL.
