Could sundstorm last with habs???

he's making $2.8 M, in salary this year, so I'm sure there is no way we tender him RFA offer, so he probably walks for free, team doesn't get compensation for losing RFA, So why don't we trade him now, he's nothing more then third liner, and I can't see him making top six, so why don't we unload him to get the assets we really need, even in terms of rental plaYER!!

I'm sure BG won't hesitate to include him in the deal, even for a rental player, we have ver few expandable assets and we could get something out of rangers for him!!

I could see one of two things happen IF Gainey deosn't move Sundstrom before the deadline (which I don't think he will do).

a) Offer Sundstrom a one year contract with a 10% raise ~1.98M for 1 year

or

b) Offer a deal with less than a 10% raise, but make it a two year deal ~ 3.5M for two years.

He and Dackell are similar players we don't need the two of them. As for Sundstrom, if teams are interested i wouldnt mind seeing him go.

If we can receive something good for him, I wouldn't mind seeing him leave. We could have a pretty good third line without him for next year: Bulis-Begin-Higgins/Ward. It would be a great line who could score.

not the $1.8 M, you are saying, its just that sharks are covering up $1 M of his contract this season which means, he's currentlly making $2.8 M per season way too much for third line checker, money could easilly go elswhere in effort to find top six forward in free agency, or trading for one!!!

Sorry but neither one of you are right. Sundstrom makes 1.95M not 1.8, not 2.8, but 1.95M reguardless of who is paying how much, 1.95M is the total of his salary. Next year he will have to be offered 2.145M or he will be a UFA if not offered that amount.

I think the Habs could afford not to make a qualifyine offer, wait him out, and sign him for less. I don't think any GM will offer him $2M+.

Sundstrom is making 1.95 with the Sharks picking up 25%(part of the Hackett trade)

He's a handy penalty killer, but if we keep Dackell around, we'll have Dackell, Begin, Bulis, and Ward (and maybe Plekanec and/or Higgins as the season progresses). Not too bad. Sunny is expendable. With that 2 mil, the 3 mil we'll be saving from Perreault's contract, and the money finally freed up from McKay and Czerkawski's contracts, we'll have a nice lump of change to lock up Souray and maybe even get a winger off the FA market.

I think the bigger question is: how much is Brisebois going to want, and how much are we going to give him?

he's contract runs out next year, so Sharks have nothing to do with him after that, while he's base salary is still $2.8 M, which we will have to match.

Show me where it says Sundstroms contract is 2.8M! It's not. His base is 1.95M according to NHLPA.

I'd rather keep Sundstrom than Dackell on the 3rd line but not at 2 millions a year that's for sure.

There's nothing to add. It's 1.95M flat base salary. NHLPA does not figure in who pays what. Sundstrom makes 1.95M and will need 2.145M offered next year or he's a UFA. End of story.

Sundstrom is a good third liner. He is one step better than Dackell. In my opinion, he is more intense, better offensively while being equal or little better than Dackell defensively. He is very good on the PK. At 2 millions a year, he is expensive. We should trade players like Dackell & Sundstrom and replace them with bigger guys who can hit. I think Jason Ward is one of those guy. We should get a big center & another big talented winger who could kill penaltys.

I like Niklas Sundstrom. But, is he a $2 million player? For my money, no he isn't. Now, he could proove to be very valuable in the post-season, especially if he ups the intensity level.

Dackell was incredible a few games ago (against the Rags or Sens, I think), and he looked absolutely awesome that game. However, I still prefer the younger Niklas Sundstrom. In my opinion, this is a guy Gainey would like to bring back; as he is a quality veteran and a solid leader, someone who has enough talent and enough presence to have a bit of an impression on the youngsters.

I think this is a situation that could be similiar to the Chad Kilger resigning last season, where Kilger was let loose shortly before the July 1st deadline, only to be resigned for cheaper. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Sundstrom favours returning to his homeland in preparation for a strike. As a hopeful fan, I'm optimistic that we can avoid a work stoppage.

Based on that, should a kid such as Perezhogin or Kastitstyn proove that they are capable of a spot during Training Camp, than surely a team such as the one we played tonight would be interested in a guy like Sundstrom; a perennial 30-point guy, especially if we could have him return for around the league average of 1.7 million.
